skybox has epg but its not very good just shows now and next.
ccam works quite well, still testing tho. great quality picture on HD channels.

skybox has ccam plug settings & MGCamd settings also newcamd protocol. I have no idea what the last 2 are.

I thought openbox s9 & skybox s9 were the same just diff shell.

This is July version all sorted in favs all dodgy channels which cause the reboot loop now deleted. Also any ~~~~ish lookin channels deleted. For Sly uk 28.2e

Let me know what you guys think of it, took ages to do this.

Get a usb stick FAT32 formatted, unrar firmware. Put on usb stick, insert at back of STB wait for a few seconds it should say usb device connected. upgrade the firmware thru the menu. once done you should have all the UK channels all sorted for you. Next step is get ur ccam.cfg file onto usb stick and update that onto STB. (open ccam.cfg with notepad just add your cline, close and save)

menu>network local settings>ccam plug setting>update files by usb> press yellow to update.

should say 1 account found or soma like this. go to CCam plug settings again>manage config files>press ok on the ccam.cfg>press ok again to activate your cline(shoud see a green tick) press exit
Now goto network local setting>DHCP ON>APPLY> NOW PRESS THE STANDBY BUTTON ON STB>wait a few secs>press standby again and voila you should be up n running
        Attached Files

          Irfy,

can I just confirm - did you get the openbox or skybox?

I'm in the market for a receiver, preferebly HD but didn't want to spend ?150 or so on a dreambox.

Seen the openbox, but been warned off by a couple of people based on the lack of support etc.

What's your opinion of the box? Is it good enough to be a "main" box or would you keep it as a 2nd box in the bedroom or whatever?

I'm on a fixed dish for sly 28.2e only.

It's either this or the dm500 at ?50!!

          Cheers

#PS - Anyone ever come across the DM 500 HD? Not bothered about the PVR feature of the 800 - maybe a 500 HD is cheaper anyone?

Im same as you have fixed dish 28.2e only. Im using as main box, its pretty damn sweet. Firmware updates are coming out, hooley posted the latest one which in my opinion is the best, latest ccam 2.1.4 included slightly better epg. Reboot problems still exist but can be sorted you just need to sort out the channels and delete the dodgy ones that cause the reboot. Picture quality is great, my only issue at the moment is that my audio sometimes crackles. I think its my cabling its the shitty RG6 cable, ive ordered 10mt webro WF100 and a technomate TM1 0.1db high gain LNB. Im hoping it will arrive tommorow got eng comin saturday to fit. Once this audio issue is gone i'll be a happy bunny. If you intend to use just ccam like me then you cant go wrong.

Its a sweet deal im so glad i didnt get the DM500s. Im gettin another one this time Openbox s9 they are both the same tho.

              Hope this helps

Perfect answer mate, thanks! I'm not quite "with it" yet when it comes to ccam & all that business, but I won't be using it as a server, it'll strictly be internet into receiver into TV. Is it easy enough to get the relevant cline input & scan for channels?

Re: the EPG - might sound stupid, but is it easy enough for a 7 year old to use/understand?

Next question - where to buy?!!

I've been offered an Openbox S9 from a guy in China - ?95 ($147) inc delivery, paypal etc...

Any UK stockists - I'd rather deal with a UK company for possible returns etc, but I know it'll probably cost more.

                  **********

                  thanks again.....

i fancied one of these just for the football... but it seems its just a client box.. i cant find anyone who has managed to use it as a server..

i've too many friends to go to a client only box

I have to be honest, and i think that all these cheap HD boxes are the way to go if you allready have at least 1 well established c/s enabled box....We have a Spiderbox HD7000 running as client only and for ?150 it works very well with only 1 crash in many months..It may be time to invest in a even cheaper one ( sub ?100 ) for the boys room to replace the eagle DM500s they have....
More cheap boxes please for all us cash strapped family men out there.....

It features Blind scan litterally takes 3 mins or so to scan 600+ channels and radio channels. I was confused at first on how to input cline info. I was trying to input thru remote directly into STB menu. I couldnt do it, info too long to fit, anyways after i realised you just put the cfg file on a usb stick and upload it that way. It now takes me 5 or 6 mins to setup from start to finish. New firmware has simple EPG anyone can understand.

As for price ?95 is good i paid more on ebay and it still came from China took 7 days. Ive got my LNB and Webro WF100 cable i hope the engineer comes tommorow.

Does anyone know if Webro WF100 is any good?

How hard is it to update these boxes and where is everyone getting the updates from? I'm thinking about buying one of these boes but currently theres not many support forums for these boes so i'm a bit cautious about buying.

Its simple to update firmware via usb takes 1 min. As for support i think its getting better. I got it with July firmware now the latest is Aug. Laurel from sataid.net has done some work on the July firmware handy for people with motorised dishes.
Main thing is that STB is stable and works well with great pic quality.

Ive noticed german and french users have issues with HD channels. UK users 28.2e just few niggles

                                1) reboot issues (can be fixed)
                                2) some channels or programs dont stretch to 16:9 ratio (doesnt happen on Sky sports 1234 and all movie HD channels ok) just happens sometimes, this used to happen on my old V+ box.

                                3) Remote could have been better
