i think i would agree a dm 500 one of the new 4 layer ones would be a good starter but the spiderbox also is a good starter to loads of channels

if you are after channels the same day you set the system up then a protek/spiderbox type of reciever is best. how anybody can recommend a linux box for a starter system is beyond me unless you are knowlegable were pc,s and ftp,ing ect then they are extremly frustrating and difficult to set up. my tm600/unixbox/dm500v8 recivers have nearly been thrown out of the window plenty of times and i havent even tried my vu+duo yet. in 15 years of messing about with sat/cable ect id say the technomate recievers are the easiest to set up imo. regards mdtDM800HDSE SIM 2.10. hi guys, im new to the whole area to linx boxes, jus got a dm500s, had it for a day now, so still not to aware of my surroundings. i hope i can learn atlot from it and move on from this little sketchy thing i have. goes without sayin the box is great and does whats required, but sometimes channels are picked up sometimes there not, and removed.
lost bbc 4 and few others already

yeah got to agree with MDT if you are a complete newbie to sat forget the linux boxes,I know its supposed to be the only way to go now but to start with if you want to learn the basics of how to set up dishes fixed or motorised and get an understanding of where the various satellites are and transponders etc: without haveing to figure out the box as well get a simple std technomate it will teach you well without driving you up the wall and are just about bullet proof, and you can use it for a spare or setting up dishes when/if you move on to something else.Comment
