    S10:Recording HD TV-device too slow

New genuine S10 (chip set on list), no problems with SD TV but struggles to replay HD TV. Have tried various USB flash memory sticks, all tested for gradually increasing speed of read / write and 4 different hdds, both usb powered and external powered (eg 320GB Verbatum, 500GB Iomega). Some give message that device is too slow and may freeze picture, some replay in stops and starts without message and struggle on without total freezeup. All these recording devices work fine for recording HD on the cheaper Philex/Labgear HDSR300 receiver. So why does the S10 have a problem? (Version C2HS2-11-06-21:047DCM). Is there some additional tweek I need to install? Ive read posts on this and Fridgefta that there are some problems but no solution given that Ive found.

    same problem

I have the same problem using a openbox s9 I get the same message on the screen saying devise is to slow to record.
I noticed I started having problems when I updated from the May firmware,so I might go back to earlier firmware.

        1TB seagate expansion external drive

I have currently attached the above hdd to the usb. It sometimes copes with high def recording, sometimes struggles. On paper this should have no problem (64MB buffer) with large continuous signal input. What must I do to be able to record all high definition TV with the S10?? (Chip ID 1015, firmware C2HS2-11-06-21:047DCM ) Any help greatly appreciated!

            benchmark

there are benchmark programs for usb drives/ sticks, maybe use that and compare notes.
So far my drives have a 16mbs transfer rate.

              usb hdd

hi are you useing a harddrive powerd by usb only if so try a external harddrive with usb and 12v power supply aswell i have a seagate 1tb usb with 12v power supply and works fine,i had the same probs with just usb powerd as it does`nt give enough power from the usb port itself.well hope this helps.

                old drives

The best I could do with old drives in a usb2.0 externally powered case(all mine are) transfer rate of 33MB/s,which is fine for SD recordings but would struggle on HD recording.
A new external usb3.0 case/drive would actually cost more than the receiver did.

                  benchmark

benchmark program to check the transfer rate on a usb hardrive when connected to a pc.

                    Bottleneck

Hi i think the problem you are having is being caused by a bottleneck in the writing to harddrive.

I have found if you switch off the timeshift facility on the box and just have it set for recording my s10 records HD fine only gives me the warning when i have timeshift on.

Then there is only one stream instead of two using drive.

                    Hope that makes sense.

                    cheers

Im having exactly the same problem,
                        Ive tried 2 hard drives.
7200rpm 32mb buffer and 5600 8mb buffer, both work fine on my blade box but not on my S10.

Is it a firmware fixable issue

                          transfer rate

I would check the transfer rate on the usb drives, mine is 33MB/s and a problem.

                            dvrset

There is a setting in the dvr set menu(hdd info, blue button on remote)that has settings for dvr type:rec, rec&tms, timeshift.
When I try to set it to just rec,the setting doesn't get saved.
                            It reverts back to rec&tms.

                              dvrset

you only see a difference when you go back to the hdd menu, whether it allocates space for tms or not.
