Im tempted to try this... it definitely resolves the issue?

            Hi all,

Sorry for bringing up an old(ish) thread but I have a friend with similar problems, although the issue also goes back to when he had his $ky HD box connected.

His amp is an Onkyo 606. If he puts the F5 he gets a picture but no sound.
If he puts the F% direct to the TV he gets sound but no picture (Pioneer Kuro Plasma) !

Very strange that he gets Sound one way and Audio the other but not both together... As mentioned he did have similar issues with his Sky HD box and also Apple TV 3 come to think of it..

He is not the most tech savvy guy on the planet and I have tried to debug on the phone but I am 250 miles away!

            Any clues?

This is a long shot has he tried a firmware update on the AMP itself as i know Onkyo are pretty much on the ball when it comes to sorting out issues with the A/V equipment, Although it may also need to be done at a service centre thats the first thing to try as it sounds very much like a HDMI-CEC issue

Thanks for that. I have sent the video to him so we will see what that does. I will report back wither way.

                Top man.

                *EDIT*
Ah, that is the 609, his 606 does not have Ethernet however I am sure another way to update Firmware.

Thats why i also added the part about the service centre as all of the Onkyo's have a service port.

After doing a little research apparently this is a common problem and will have to go to a service centre for 4 capacitors to be changed. I would probably contact Onkyo first to see if he can wangle the repair for free as it appears to be an ongoing problem with some of there models.

Personally if this is going to cost Money in the long run and i dont know if it will or not but i would look at changing the Amp for a newer model, Richer sounds do a sony with 4 HDMI inputs and 1 output for ?99 so it may be an idea to weigh the cost of repair against a newer model.

                  Regards

Yep, a very common problem it seems.

He is on the case sourcing the parts and going to get it sorted. It has been doing his nut in for a long time now!
