Openbox S9 crash when card inside.

I bought an Openbox S9 yesterday and have lots of problems with it.
I am an expat in Indonesia and use Indovision for my tv.
So I do have a subscription but wanted my own box to see their HD channels which are free but need a HD Box.
I set the box up and the channels are all there but scrambled.
As soon as I insert the card it crashes and reboots, then there are only two dashes on the display.
If inside and switch off and on it's the same.
firmware is old, HDS2-1010-26: 1647CMT, also I think I have a genuine box, but I can not read the CCID cause it crashes when inserting the card.
It only shows ff00 but I think that may change if card inside.
I want to update the firmware, might that solve the problem.
Problem is though there is no USB upgrade in Menu.
Is it possible to upgrade over LAN?
Otherwise I need to update over serial I think, then have to buy a cable.
Another problem, I have a powerbook g4 which can not run windows and don't have access to a pc.
    Possible on a mac.
Is there a nice guide how to do this.
One more thing, if you are in 1080i mode is only the tv channels 1080i and not the menu, my menu is just part of screen, is that normal?

Lots of questions, greatly appreciate some help.
    Cheers Perry

    Edit to update:

Resolution problem solved, had to switch RGB to YUV and then I could set the right resolution, then set something (forgot)more to Auto.
Even a small Raspberry Pi does this much better, why not here?

I double posted due to a glitch in My internet connection, thought the first wasn't send but it did, sorry for that.

Everything except for the main problem works.
I bought this box while on holiday in a city 8 hours away from here just to save about $25 but now I regret it.
There is just no option in the menu to update from USB, wouldn't be a problem if I was in Holland, have access to PC there with serial bus.
I only got a Powerbook G4 here, won't run Windows, non Intel and does not have a serial connection either.

So, is it possible to upgrade by serial to USB cable?
I Have a TP-Link Router and I could solve a problem with a USB to serial so my guess it will be possible here too.

Is there anybody out there which also had a crash when a card was inserted, not the CI slot but just the reader?
And if so, did it get solved by using newer software.
I am in no mood to go back to that city, takes 16 hours up and down, sending it back is also not that cheap here in Indonesia.
If I don't get it solved I let my Indo girlfriend call them, but I probably end up sending it back if I can not solve it myself.

Another option would be to buy a Dreambox in Malaysia in a month and just share from the dreambox to the openbox, that should work.

    Cheers Perry

very old f/w mate, use to cause reboot problems in uk and had to delete the channels causing the reboot,

i would upgrade the f/w but back your box up 1st,
use the software to check if it's a clone and if alls good after that install newer firmware, If your still worried about clones then there is clone safe firmware which can be downloaded on this site somewhere

i dont think usb upgrade wont show until usb is plugged in

Also there are tools on here that can be downloaded to upgrade over lan, i haven't used it to upgrade f/w but have used it for softcam.keys, tp_prog and cccam,

        Thanks Darcu5

I guess they don't sell that many boxes here, most have or paid subscription or use different boxes.
That's what I actually thought, if I google that firmware number there are few hits so it must be an early firmware.
Nice you pointed me out to lan software tools, will look into that.
The box is able to see the USB so I guess something else is going on, but I will try to format it on the openbox instead of on my mac and look what happens.

Only question I have, I have tools to upgrade the firmware but how do I backup the firmware?
I have EromUpgrade, but that's only to upgrade isn't it.
Already have clone safe firmware, don't think I need it though, read in other forums that if the card reader board is brown is genuine and all the internals seem to be from a genuine box.

        Thanks for the help Perry

Hi mate, not to sure how to do the backup over lan, i will have a look later and see if the option is there, i know on the usb it's on the option to 'dump files to usb' select which files you wish to save and it puts them on the usb.
