Tutorials for alieditor/pvr800 .. editing channel lists..?

    Folks,

I have added AJs Channel List to my Skybox F3 and I wouls like to edit this to remove some unused favourites and re-order the list.

For example, Favourite 14 is blank (Adult not required) hence I don't want it to show up on the box. In addition I would like to move Asians to the top of the favourites.

I have downloaded PVR Editor and converted the list to .abs but for some intellectual reason cant figure out how this is being read in PVR Editor and it is confusing me.

Whilst I am at it, i may like to update frequencies/names etc.

Is there a tutorial kicking about ? The PVR 800 download link just houses a few readme files etc

    Thanks.

+1, That would be nice too.... any other program to edit channel list? (but won't brick a box)

Hi, I've removed the Adult fav & bumped the International one to the top. I've not been able to test it though so backup before you update!

I've not seen any tutorials on editing channels but it's pretty easy to get the hang of if you just play about.

There's probably an easier way to edit but the way I do it is to change the .DBS to .ABS & open it as "User Data Base" then obviously save, change it back to .DBS & update.

Check KingOfSat for a list of frequencies & channel information LINK

there was a hacked version of alieditor that would open .dbs files.Or you can use the split program that comes with stbhdeditor to split off the .udf file for editing.
I just transfer the channel list via rs232 with the editor itself to avoid renaming.

How do you do this I have tried with stbheditor and it doesn't connect to my skybox f3 do I need to power the box off like when you are flashing firmware via rs232 this works by the way so com port config appears to be ok

            Hey..

Thanks AJ! I haven't been on for a while, so only just saw this.

Your channel list is great and I am using it for my learning curve too to see if I can get the hang of creating these myself.

What I would like to do is re-number the channel list (somehow) to Sky Numbering (for my folks)?

Also - not sure if you are aware at the moment BBC 3 on your list is not showing up on any of the favourites e.g Entertainment and neither is it showing up on ALL SATELLITES.

Just wondered if you knew how I would go about adding that in to ALL SATELITES - It wont let me add to Entertainment from the box itself..

With regards to Ali Editor/PVR Editor - as a simple example, lets say I want to do this:

-Remove favourite group 25 from the list.

            1) rename tp_prog.dbs to .abs
            2) Open as "User Database" in Ali Editor

The list opens but I have no option to "Right Click" or edit via Edit Group etc - What am i doing wrong?

Do I need an RS232 Cable? Currently I don't have this..

I think I may need to do "Download File PC>>STB"? before i can edit?

            Cheers mate.

As slugworth says there's a version of the editor on here somewhere that works directly with the tp_prog.dbs file. Much much simpler. I'll see if I can find it.

Repeat, this method is much much simpler. Combined with the stb_mm_lan utility it makes channel editing and saving a doddle. Just wish the programme itself was a bit more flexible eg drag and drop channels to favourites etc

                Channel editor

Well I tried to download the link I put and the file is a different one to the one that originally loaded (though very similar, it didn't have the option to load .dbs)

This is the file that works (should be called channel_editor_dbs or something like it):

So just to confirm there is no way of keeping your favourite list names when you send channel list back to the receiver. Renaming the favourites via the remote is a pain.

So if I needed to clone my receiver (skybox f3) to three other identical receivers channel list and favourites the only way I could do this is to dump complete firmware including channel list to usb .abs file, then upgrade the other three boxes via usb with my firmware .abs file.

No. You can install the channel lists separately if you want (as described above).

Yes but then ill have to rename favourites three times with the box remote controls that's what I don't want to do its bad enough doing it once.

edit the favorite names in the full .abs file, and save as user data base. Save again as the default data base.Load the full firmware to receiver and to a factory reset. All the edited names should be intact.
