I took the front of my f5 off and my diode was pointing down, i repositioned slightly (tilted it up a bit) and now it works fine

yeah you can plug it into any usb device to power it or usb power supply
then you stick the small senser on the front panel of your f3/f5 firing at the ir senser in the box
then the bigger end goes anywhere close by to receive the signal from your remote

as for your remote Glee30 sounds like its not working properly
i bought a spare brand new f3/f5 remote on fleebay for under a fiver delivered
ive even changed the ir led in the remote to a higher power one ,but it didnt make any difference to me
but i did open my f5 box to find the ir senser inside pointing down instead of forward so i bent it up and that improved things a bit when i dont use the ir extender
but i think the real solution would be to replace the ir senser to a better one in the box , but dont really fancy mucking up the box and having to buy a new one

i wonder if the front plastic on the f5 lets enough ir signal thru 2 the senser , coz it looks a bit black to me
i wonder if it was a less black and more sort of red , then the signal might pass thru more easy
maybe next time i take the f5 box apart i might try it without the front on
see if that improves things or not
but still not gona drill a hole init tho

hey i just had a thought
how bout take the front off the f5 and then get your camera phone and see how much infrared passes thru when you press the remote
      see how bright it is
and also could do the same with some old fronts of old boxes we were gona throw away
and see how much difference there is
maybe the f5 front absorbs more infrared light and stops it getting thru to the sensor on the other side
then i might drill a hole and fill it with some plastic that lets the infrared thru much better
and see what the difference is

        Just an Update...
Seller ordered remote but "lost in Transit".. but in fairness they refunded me ?8 so can't complain really.. I have now purchased an Openbox S11 remote form Ebay ?4.75 delivered... from reading here & other forums this apparently is more reactive and has the same functions..

Sensor was facing down as well but didn't move it as my box is way up high so if my RC is working it will suit me fine..
