I noticed that ebay sell splitters for sly wires so i could hook up another box. But i was also told that each box needs to run directly from the lnb. So which is which. Can i use one of these splitters ?? Thanks for any help on this

You can run many boxes from a single quad lnb by using a device that fixes each of the four outputs into one of the four possible states (15v/no tone, 15/tone, 18v/no tone and 18v/tone). At the box end you would then need to use the 'opposite' device to either recombine the signal or, more likely, route the box to the proper one of the four lines.
This is the kind of device often used in distribution system where many households can be supplied by one single quad lnb/dish (ie flats etc)Comment

The Quad LNB has four separate outputs that can feed 4 receivers independently from one another so i am unsure why you would want to join them all together and then split them

You can't use a splitter like you do on a coax cable, if you have two tuners then each tuner needs to have its on lnb feed or if sharing a lnb feed then one must be off, 2 tuners can't use same lnb at the same time. If both tuners (if it works) are on you will find that one of the tuners will only be showing channels that are on same transponder as the other tuner is tuned to, I hope I have not confused anyone.

You can do it using the technique I described above and another technique that remaps each of the outputs to a new frequency range before feeding the lot down a single coax but its not really practible for standard home setups. The methods are used extensively for distribution systems or where there is excessive cable distances (its common in certain parts of scandanavia where the dish could be located several km from the receiver).Originally posted by rugitoso i could use a splitter to join the quad lnb into one wire and then use another splitter to split the one wire into 4 for my boxes.... or did i completely misunderstand
Unless you have some specialist requirement its probably easier to just dismiss the idea.
As long as you take the control voltages and signals into account there's not really a lot of difference. In the end its all just signals down a bit of coax. Use the proper interfaces and you could treat sat in a similar way to cable with little problem if you were so inclined.Originally posted by sb18180this is not cableLast edited by TheCoder; 13 April, 2013, 00:06.Comment

You can do anything, if you throw enough money at it...
The point here is, one tuner needs one lnb port, twin tuner box needs two ports and so on.
