    rs232 cable

Hi, I have a s11 that sticks on boot and gives no display, a quick search on digital-kaos suggests next step would be flash the box which is something I have never done. So I look on eBay for a cable and see that most are male to male so I thought I would check the box only to find it takes a female, but then I came up against a bigger problem no laptop in my house has a rs232 socket, what do I do?

make friends with somebody that has an old pc.
most usb adapters don't work with the openbox loader.
In most cases an old pc is cheaper than the usb converter.

If most of the cables you found were Male to Male then you were searching for the wrong cable.

It has been emphasized over & over again that the cable needs to be a null modem cable and not a straightforward serial cable. If you search for these on Ebay you will find that the vast majority are female to female.
