    F5 recording problem

Hello I'm new to all this so bare with my lack of knowledge, I have recently bought an f5 box and I am trying to connect an external hard drive that I have via the USB port, but it doesn't connect and won't let me record? Is there something wrong with my box or something I'm doing wrong, thanks

Hi thanks for replying, no device is detected when I plug it in, the blue light on the hardrive that is meant to stay on when it's plugged in just flashes on then goes off? I have no idea if its compatible (im useless with technology) I use the hardrive for one of my consoles. When I press record it just says no record partition (or something along those lines). Is it worth buying a cheap USB stick and trying that? Thanks

Hi the hard drive is best empty with the x5 and formated in fat32, then when reconised on connection press paus and it should set a partition after stopping pause it should now record

Ifound that once the HDD is recognised use the box to format it.

Ok thanks guys, I think I'll get a new USB stick as I have too much important stuff on the hard drive to get rid of, then I'll search how to format it to fat32 as I have no idea what that is or how to do it haha oh dear, thank you

ntfs works fine as well, I started with fat32 but I believe that splits the files due to fat32 limitations so now I use ntfs. In both cases the hdd has to be formatted before you start using it.

thanks to all you guys, I will have a look see, if I can offer anymore positive info on this i will do so. I've tried lots of different things ,no joy but this all helps a lot knowing fat32 and NTFS works fine.
