Hi can anyone advise me on what external hard drive i will need to record from my skybox f5, to be honest i know very little about hard drives although i have been on internet and i am learning as i go along, so i would like to know the following please.( what sort would be compatible for examlpe (size of drive, will i need to do anything to it when i buy a hard drive, do i buy one that just plugs into the back of the f5 with a lead or is a usb one better or worse, also any recommendations where the best place to buy from, i have been looking at argos,pc world ,ebay etc, etc. Hope someone can help or advise me in fairly easy terms as i have just got used to being able to use the f5 box after a few weeks and i am ok with it now.THANKS VERY MUCH.. You will need an external USB one and preferably one with its own power supply, Model or make wont matter just make sure it has USB

Never used one personally but other members seem to have used 1TB drives with no problems

I noticed on argos site some say usb 2 and some are usb 3, will this make any difference and both are portable and quite small in size dimensions.

Hi Barry best get one with its own power supply as advised in previous post by Digicon what you are looking for is usually called a - Desktop External Hard Drive instead of a Portable External Hard drive as the Portable ones are powered by the USB port which is not the best for recording etc. I personally use a Western Digital 1tb Desktop External Hard Drive.

On a personal note, I use a Portable 500GB external HD and have had no issues with it at all. The 3 TB one you have listed is massive and to be fair you could save yourself ?50 or so if you went down in size. Remember to format to FAT32 though

Hi thanks for the reply, a 1 tb one from argos is ?60 so i thought i might as well go for the 3 tb one at ?99 as i have already got ?80 in argos vouchers saved which i been getting for doing online surveys and had them a year now so decided i might as well use them up.

If it comes preformatted with NTFS then I would leave it at that.

I use an ex laptop 2.5" 250GB drive formatted to NTFS with no problems.
