Personally, I don't on my F5s, nor did I on my S10 I had before that but the box is not on top of another device (ie so heat from another device is contributing to heat generated by F5s). Also, I only have box on mon-fri evenings, daytime sat/sun otherwise it's on standby (so not on 24/7).

If the box should not be on top of a laptop cooling pad. What do you suggest?

And it happened: crashed on the big channel list while switching channels. Hour and a half later, not several hours. Must be the installation (antenna, lnb, cables).

Before we blame the box always consider having the box on free channels for few hours to see if there is no issue with the box then the problem lies with your pay channels some thing we can not help!!!!

Already done that. No matter whether i'm watching free or pay channels. It can happen either 1-2 hours (recent case) or 10-12 hours (first and second ones).

As you have the problem with both boxes then it's either a coincidence or the problem lies elsewhere like lnb/cables I would say. It's a shame you can't take your box to try somewhere else or even someone else's box tried on yours.

            How old is the dish/lnb/cable?

It's easier to check cables at first. Take end of cable (both if possible) and check that none of the thin copper strands are touching the one thick copper strand in the centre of the cable. If cable is extended then check end of every of cable.

I won't be around after today for rest of week so things I personally would try (obviously not all may be possible and you may have already tried):-

              * Backup things from box, restore back to defaults, restart box, install firmware but don't choose to remember DBS & settings (I haven't personally tried the very latest version as yet), restore back to defaults again, restart box, delete all channels and restart box, install channel list and restart box. I realise some of these things maybe overkill but I know I didn't once and suffered from random crashes/reboots. I then tried again as above and had no problems.
              * Try box somewhere else, or another box you know to work.
              * Check end of each cable to ensure thin copper strands are not touching the one thick copper strand in centre of cable.
              * If LNB has more than one available slot, try another slot and check for signs of water ingress at same time
