Sound cutting off even with powered HDD

I took the hdd from the original Sky box so it should be fast enough and everything, plugged it in to a top of the range powered external adapter and formatted it yet the sound still cuts out constantly when timeshift is enabled with it.

any idea why?

Have you formatted to FAT32 with 64k cluster sizes.

I formatted it to FAT32 with 32k cluster sizes is that the issue?

I believe this is a known bug as this issue has been posted several times in the past on the forum. It's also been posted that disabling timeshift has cured the issue for several users.

I know and ive read them posts. disabling timeshift does cure the issue (which I tried to make clear in the first post but may not have) but the thing is I want to use timeshift and would expect to do so with a properly powered hdd.

Just formatted it to 64k clusters instead and its still doing the same unfortunately

I totally agree with you. Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to that one. I can only hazard a guess and theorize that it's possibly due to the hardware limitations of the box i.e. perhaps it can't cope with the power demand or possibly the box requires greater memory. With those points in mind perhaps a firmware update wouldn't even solve the problem.

Strange though because it shouldnt be drawing any power from the box as its from the mains and it is a 500gb hard drive and the box fills like 2gb a time with timeshift on. I think im on the latest firmware but even if im not theres nothing in the changelog that suggests this has been fixed.

I thought I read that the timeshift issue was solved by using external powered hdd? Maybe it's a combination of things like a good spec hdd as well.

I just use usb stick and keep timeshift off so can't help anymore than what I have previously read but maybe someone who has this working can provide advice!

Ok thanks for your help thats what I thought to but obviously not. The HDD is good it was from an original Skybox so is clearly capable of doing timeshift.

The problem maybe that the skybox needs a higher spec one as the skybox is only a cheap receiver compared to the more expensive models so it needs that little bit extra spec to work.

Actually do you still get audio problems if you are watching channel 5 (the normal version, not the HD one)?

Yes it happens on SD channels aswell and in reply to your previous post I wouldnt really understand why seeing as it has the exact same available to it, same read/write speeds etc. The disk itself writes at about 25mb from the pc which should be more than enough.

Seems to be a well known issue this with these boxes , i had to simply turn the PVR pause live option off which is a BIG shame as worked well but the sound that keeps cutting out really did my head in.

So no one knows how to resolve this Really want to be able to pause etc without it cutting off there must be some kind of solution the lets me pause with sound cutting off.
