i bought 3 pairs on ebay ages ago they are the comtrend powerline ones and installed a set for my dad and they work flawlessly.

the comtrend ones seem the dearer of them all, and the ones that BT used to send out to people. Ideally get some that have a plug slot on the front .

You will be very lucky if you get two different manufacturers items to communicate successfully together.

generally most manufacturers use there own communication type as there is no written rules on how they communicate through the devices, the only accepted rule is data leaving device to talk to the peripheral that it is connected to, hence you take a gamble when using different manufacturers.
