I would assume that Dream have someone in watching for the auctions, as soon as one pops up that says in anyway shape or form that it's NOT genuine then they report it and ebay pull it.
Best not to say owt, just give the tech spec, inform the bidders what it is by mail and make sure the winner is ok with a clone, if not re-list it.
Yeah by the looks of things Dream are watching Ebay.
Really getting sick of them its by time if they want to fight the clone market then they need to do away with there ridiculous prices for there receivers, thats the only way there going to tackle the clone market properly.
Look at the genuine 8000HD who in there right mind is going to spend close to a grand on a receiver. The Vu+ Ultimo when it finally arrives will be better in ways than the 8000HD and at 500-600 much cheaper. So if Vu+ can make a receiver with a cracking spec and offer it at a decent spec why cant Dream.
So what the 8000HD can take a DVD drive, you can walk out and buy a cheap DVD player for ?30 .

There is still a clone DM8000 HD n there. I just had a look becuase I am getting a clone one - although not from there (from a trusted seller).
Could save some cash mate if you get from china. My china supplier gives 12 month warranty on the 800 pro, se and 8000. Never had a bad receiver from them mind you.

It's Dream Multimedia who spend all the cash on software development, theyre the biggest contributors to Enigma and 2 they own the Enigma 1 and 2 trademark, they also devleoped all the chipsets and drivers in conjunction with Broadcom. Dream also pay all the image development teams such as Gemin/icvs/ihad, DreamElite, EDG Nemesis, OOzoon, NewNigma etc etc... This probably doesnt come cheap..
Now VU, and most other Linux recivers that run Enigma are in effect Dreambox clones, they havent paid for most of the software or hardware development theyre using the same or similar broadcom chipsets as Dream so they can use Dreams existing drivers and Enigma codebases...This is why they can sll recivers cheaper.
Dream factor the price of all the software and hardware research and development into their prices, it;s not really the hardware your paying for. But I agree Dream originals are well overpriced...But fact is they are the leaders, innovators in the linux sat scene,,,everyone else just follows and imitates...

I still believe that they are overpriced, yes they do all that. Vu must pay something to image teams also or else they would not officially create images for the vu. Also receiver can use a broadcom chip thats not copying dream other things use them also. A Vu+ Ultimo when released is also overpriced in my opinion but worth it compared to the 8000 thr ultimp will most likely be a better receiver, is dream going to take credit for that also?
Also if vu+ and other manufacturers was running the same drivers and so on then you would be able to use dream images.
Also anyone that pays for the linux has a right to use it in there receivers. They dont have the right to use the trademark name enigma like you mentioned.

VU must also pay image devleopment teams this is why they after the original DreamElite team split up, the Blackhole team got employed by VU.
They basically dont write images from scratch the hard work has already been by Dream, they just mod existing codebases to work on their recievers.
This is why Dream put a court injunction out against VU for using the Enigma 2 trademark.
Of course anyone can use a Broadcom chipset, the fact is the only reason everyone else uses Broadcom is because they know Dream have already paid Broadcom and produced working drivers so it's easy for them to utilise them without spending cash themselves to develop from scratch.
Dream hardware has never been the best, infact some of it is pretty underspecced for the price. Most of the cost you pay for the reciever goes towards software development costs.
I've never bought an orignal Dream product, as a hobbyist thyre just to expensive, so are VU products for that matter, i'd rather stick with DM clones, value for money cannot be beaten.

well i know for a fact that Vu nor any one else for that matter pay a penny towards the VIX team for our images, it's all done in house by andy and out of his own pocket, we get the odd free unit ( had a total of 1 beta Uno and two production models so we could develop the image properly )but thats about it.
