I just don't get it. Please help me get it.

I know these are probably very stupid questions but forgive me, I am a total newbie in this field (I am an expert in other fields ;-) )

I don't understand this whole thing with images.

I used to believe that Gemini is an image, NabiloSat is an image, and Enigma is the original image that came with the Dreambox. And that when you install an image like Gemini, you replace the original Enigma image and it is no longer an Enigma OS. Or is it still Enigma OS running Gemini image?

Do I need to install an image to be able to add softcams and cardshare?

Please check this webpage No links to other forums
and tell me if this plug-in called Permanent Timeshift 0.9.3 will run on all images?
If they remove the link, please google it.

gemini is an image, blackhole is an image, newnigma is an image and there are many more images made by different teams.

enigma 1 and enigma 2 is the firmware for the box.

Thank you for your answers. I still need your help with these two questions.

Do I need to install an image other than the original image that came with the Dreambox to be able to add soft cams and perform cardsharing?

What is the name of the image that came with the Dreambox?

if they are clones.....the dm8000 will have a ferrari sim and you will need a image that is for that sim.

the 800se - you need to know if it has a ferrari sim or a sim210 sim.

it should show what type of sim when you start the box - on the oled and the tv screen...

if you have originals, you will find the relevant stuff on dream multimedia website.

In the features list of the DM 800 se, it says there are two Dreamcrypt CA smartcard readers. It doesn't say that there are Common-Interface Slots. My understanding is that the smartcard reader (the CAM) connects to a Common-Interface Slot. Does that mean that I am able to disconnect the Dreamcrypt CAM to access the CI slot and connect an Irdeto CAM to it instead?

the card slot can be used as any emulator if the correct camd is installed.

No I mean to connect a hardware Irdeto CAM and use purchased physical Irdeto cards, not emulation?

Yes, but I want a Dreambox and Dreamboxes don't come with Irdeto CAMs built-in.

The Dreambox DM 8000 comes with two CI slots so it should be possible to connect an Irdeto CAM to it, but it is too expensive.

So the question is, is it possible to install an Irdeto CAM in place of the Dreamcrypt CAM on the Dreambox DM 800 se?
