Signal Level. Can?t get it higher than 20%

    Hi guys,
My Dreambox set up seems to suffer from bad signal reception. I pointed my 90cm dish to the Hotbird Satellite and I get only 20% of signal, measured by the ?Satfinder? option in Dreambox. I was trying for 3 hours to position the dish to the right direction but I could not get anything better than 20% of signal.

I used a multi-meter to measure the voltage on the edge of the F-Connector before the LNB and I got 18 Volts. Other than that I can not think anything better. There are trees, at the left and right of the Dish and Live Electric Wires passing at 80 degrees above the Dish but they don?t obstruct the clear view of the satellite.

What do you think is the reason why I am getting such a poor signal level?

I have been a bit obsessed with this problem , so please, if you know something, don?t skip this thread.

    Thanks
    Michael

Hi westkill and thanks for the interest.

I am using the original /preloaded Enigma2 image.

          Settings are:

          Configuration Mode: Advanced
          Satellite: Hotbird (13.0E)
          Voltage Mode: Polarization
          Tone Mode: Band
          DiseqC Mode: None
          LOF: Universal LNB
          Increased Voltage: No

          Any ideas Please?

          Thanks
          Michael

sounds like your dish isn't lined up to hotbird properly..
how did you originally lock on to the satellite..??

What to you is get a channel list for hotbird, then goto to one of the channels thereafter alter your dishes alignment until you get a picture. Look at the sky dishes of your neighbours and get a brief of the elevation required but for hotbird it will be everSo slightly higher due to it being closer to the due south satellite here in the uk.

The satfind option in setup seems to be slow to respond. I have a dm7000 and dm7020. I found the dm7020 pli image has a plugin also called satfind.

It only outputs to the lcd and has ber as well as snr and agc. It updates much faster. So much so that the last 2 digits of the 5digit numbers for snr and agc are a blur.

I'd suggest tying to get that plugin. Also one of those simple sat meters that has a needle and dial, audible tone and gain control are simple to use but can get you very close to a good signal.

                  It's your image mate.

I had the same problem with my DM800. I think it came with Gemini 3.90 pre-loaded on it and signal strength was showing as no higher than 24% - I had no end of problems and ended up flashing Gemini 4.10 to it and the signal strength is somewhere between 70-90% - without moving the dish.

Dear Dazmaul, Please Stay with me!

This is exactly what I get. Maximum signal at 24%. Exactly the same rate as you stated.

But it looks like I don't have Gemini image installed but the Enigma2 image.

Anyway thanks for putting me in the right direction. It sticks exactly at 24% !

Ohhh man thanks ! You saved me a lot of brain ! Thanks!

If it is the DreamBox unit please tell me so I can take it back (it will be a pain for me though, because that was the last unit stocked in that shop)

                    Thanks Again
                    M.
