The images on the VU are custom built enigma 2 images from PLI, VTI and Dreamelite and are not the same images as Dreamboxes. The VU has no security sim or second stage so there wont be any loader issues.
General support may be an issue in the long run though.Comment

Buy the VU+ duo. I flogged my 800(genuine) in March and ordered a VU. Only received it last week but Im really glad I bought it. Build quality is better than the DM was, it has no heat issues. Really it is superb. My only gripe is that the tuners are not plug n play. So if they ever need replaced it aint gonna be a straight forward swap. The tuners seem a lot more sensative too compared to the DM.
Ive just ordered another one yesterday.Comment

Hi their im matt
Im new to this so hello, I was in a taxi today and got talking to the driver and he started going on about a dreambox and that it allows you to get every single sky/virgin media channel for free. Just wondered is this true or was he lying.
If so how does this thing work then because if it does wouldnt everyone want one. Also could someone explain what a dreambox does, how i get every channel for free and if their is any scams or anything involved t

Once again the comparison between the Vu+ and Dreambox is misleading
The Vu+ Duo is a direct comparison with the Dreambox 8000HD
(Not to be compared with the older 800HD that's only a single tuner receiver)
The Dreambox 8000HD wins Hands down with its DVD player/Recorder, HDD , multiple Card and Cam Slots multiply Tuner card configuration & many years of support, yes it cost nearly a Thousand quid but quality come at a price.
The Vu+ solo and the Dreambox 500HD are in the same League, The Dreambox 500HD Has a newer more powerful version Broadcom Processor than that of the solo, Dreambox has many more years of support, other than that there is not much between these two, but the Dreambox 500HD wins for quality and been that bit more Powerful.
Where ever you get that idea from ? other than you bought the cheaper Weaker, Older, last Generation Broadcom Processor that's stuck in the Vu+
Compare like for like and the Dreambox wins every day......Comment

As @alunfennell says the Vu+Duo is closer to a Dm8000 with 2 tuners instead of the 4 tuner option you get with the Dm8000, that said its half the price and you can use a digital tv dongle with the Vu+Duo to make 3 tuners. Also you can use the Dm8000 imgs via usb using barry allen (not tried this myself yet).
As with everything its personal choice, and only you can decide what's right for you.
Personally i would go for the Vu+duo, its a good box with its own support.
@manx
Ps. that was fun ...Comment
