DM500 S Best Set Up Guide

    Hi Guys,

Hoping one of you can point me in the right direction....

Today i have received my DM500 S and i have been looking over this site and the rest of the net for set up guides.

I don't believe i'm able to link the other sites i have found but i have only found 1 guide that LOOKS relatively easy to follow.

Can anybody suggest or provide me with a guide to set up and get the most from my DM500 S?

Please bare in mind that i am a total beginner with Sat and not a total tech whizz.

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott

Get yourself a null modem cable and flash it with Pli image with Dreamup thats a start.
Loads of info on here and you will get set up easily with help from the forum.
Have a good look at the stickies top of section.
    Andy.

Ok, i appreciate your comment but in order to do this i would need a guide...

Sorry to be so stupid/ignorant but i have never looked at this stuff before and therefore at present "PLI Image" means nothing to me.

Please dont think i'm being lazy, i just want to find the BEST source for learning how to do this rather than searching through old/useless/irrelevant info.

      Thanks

have just d/loaded and read thru your guide rod, VERY easy to follow and covers ALL the basics peeps need to know, for some reason, most guides i see are based on technomates and not dreams, so its good to see the good old 500s used in yours.
          Fave replies from various threads

1: What the fff is all that about??? All that crap below your reply I mean, get a life mate
2: no info on google abt the pace sv5 rang asda they have no idea what i was talking about,
3: Your total contribution to this forum, bordering on trolling, seems to have been a collection of snipes, one liners & asterisked expletives

This looks to be exactly the type of thing i am looking for. Thank you very much, it's really appreciated.

I'll be sure to let you know how i get on.

Just for reference, this is the guide i found earlier:

Anybody care to advise which i should go with?

              SCHOOL BOY ERROR:

Because i already have a null modem cable and i used to flash my starview cable box on my old laptop, i assumed i'd be fine. My new laptop doesn't have the right type of com port.

              Am i screwed?

                Ok to flash your box.

Download dcc and the read me guide.

Also source pli jade 3 from here

Now get dcc connected, click tools, then update flash image and browse to to the newly downloaded pli jade img. then flash over lan.

                Thats it done,

Now refer back to my or any tutorial and learn how to install and setup box.

No point in asking what tut to go with, go with any than make sense to you, even a mixture that will ultimately give you the same end goal.

The only way to fully learn is to the hard graft mate and read as many posts as you can to fully understand how things work.

                  Andy.

Once i flashed the box it froze.... I ended up pulling the power from it and it now doesn't seem to do anything. Bricked?

Dreamboxs have a built in safety feature that stops you turning them off and on quickly so wait a few mins and try again and if it dont work power up on and off quickly,

By power it on you mean put the power in the back? Pressing the button on the system does nothing. I just have the middle green LED constantly lit

DCC no longer recognises the dreambox either only the router

Either power in back of Dreambox or Switch at plug on and off quickly.
Happens all the time on Dreamboxes,it happened on my first Dreambox 500 and i thought it was bricked but its still going fine.
Give it time it should power back up or respond to Dreamup with null modem cable,

                            Andy.

Ok, well i've tried powering up etc... to no avail.

The null modem cable i have doesnt fit my laptop as they both have the same the female connection. Guess a new one is required before i move on.

Thanks for you help. It's appreciated
