Typical CS will use less than 100 bytes of data per sec so, if you were connected 24/7 for a whole month you would expect to transfer around 250Megs of data. For a typical 4 hours/day of viewing the requirement would be more like 45Megs.
Although mobile internet CS internet MAY wok quite well for you there are no guarantees and its operation tends to be quite variable especially in areas where there is high cell usage or the signal is variably weak. The best chance for good operation is in a rural location but where the signal is quite strong. This is because there are likely to be few others competing for the cell bandwidth (individual cells have an allocation of bandwidth shared between all users). Urban areas with large numbers of cell users will likely be unsatisfactory as will any area that has a weak signal.
Ping times on mobile networks can also be a problem and can vary enormously depending on both provider and individual cell. Most cell providers purchase very low tier bandwith from the backbone providers (mostly BT/VM) which means packets can face significant delays if the networks are busy.
Generally, if you haven't got a choice then give it a try - you dont really have too much to lose, but if you do have a choice then i'd tend to stay well clear of this option.
DONT be fooled into thinking that mobile internet is any more secure than other options for CS - it isn't !Comment
