Help ....... My wife's spat her dummy out !!

    Hi Guys,
I have just purchased a DM600 and installed an image and cam. All works well with my subscription card with the yellow house on it.
The problem is my wife throw a wobbly big time as she can not see any benefits of having this.
Does any one have some kind of 'list of benefits' the dreambox has over other satelitte receivers. Thus saving me from an expensive retail therapy trip.
    Thanks

Unfortunately, if you're using the dreambox as a replacement for a Sky+ box, the Sky+ box is better than any dreambox.

If you connect the dreambox to a router, you can join a cardsharing server to receive other channels. But we don't allow cardsharing discussions so google is your best friend with that.

      Yep.. DF is right..

If you only watch Sky UK then you have spunked off quite a bit of cash..

The Dreambox is best used for foreign channels..

I would say.. (bit of a big statement this..!) most Dream users do so for foreign channels and have a UK subscription..

      EG..

I have a XL Virgin+ for domestic UK TV and Dreambox for all Sports (Premier League, Champions League, F1, Golf)

        Cheers for the replies.
DF...... I've always said google is not the answer to everything.... but it's a good start. More internet searches ahead I think.
I don't particulary like the idea of joining a c/s server.... giving your bank details and IP address to someone you don't know... seems a bit to easy to do ID theft.

        opsmonkey.....
Being a complete noobie to this, to get Sports (Premier League, Champions League, F1, Golf) do I need to splash out for a bigger dish or even a motorised dish. I take it these are not available on a normal sky dish.

sky dish only shows whats on your sky channels with a skybox or dreambox
you would need a motorised setup for other stuff on different satellites
you need a motor and 80 cm to a 1 metre dish and bracket package
          some thing like this
85cm MOTORISED SATELLITE DISH DiSEqC MOTOR 0.1dB LNB 80 on eBay, also, Dishes, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 10-Feb-09 03:13:27 GMT)
          or
1m MOTORISED SATELLITE DISH DiSEqC 1.2 MOTOR + 0.2 LNB on eBay, also, Dishes, Satellite Cable Freeview, Consumer Electronics (end time 10-Feb-09 10:15:00 GMT)
          dm800-s=1.1 m triax motorised dish=titanium twin lnb

To fully enjoy this hobby you will realy need a 1 meter + satellite dish combined with a motor to pick up a lot of the different satelites, you will pick up thousands of channels, Card sharing discussion is of course banned on DK but you need not have to pay for it (its called sharing) with your sky subscription you could share it with friends & Family if the have any Dreambox or Linux receiver and share the cost of a Sky subscription between all of you, also with the savings you make you could easly buy another subscription card to extend your viewing. (there are many options you can consider.

With a motorised dish, and emu you will receiver alot of free channels and a very good romanian tv package..this will get you footy, docs, cartoon, news and general tv..you will get channels like rai which are general tv shows in italian so its like italies bbc..theyre the kind of channels you will get..adult tv too!

Always lowering the tone Sadiq999uk with your Adult content, his wife has throw a wobbly for just buying a Dreambox in these hard economic times could you imagine what a flash of slap and tickle up on the screen could do (I remind you what happened to Mr Bobit), this hobby normaly does not come with a healty warning, but in this case caution must be observed.

Thanks for the wise words Alun.
I think it will be a while before I'm let loose with my credit card again. So to spend another ?100+ on a motorised dish is probably out of the question, especially as I don't want the same consequencies as Mr Bobit.

Yes as others have said, don't even consider paying for cardsharing. There are a few forums out there where you can share your 'shares' with others for free.
