    DM500s flash help

Hello I just received my DM500s and I am trying to flash it.

I bought a female to female serial cable and a serial male to usb adaptor.

I tried to flash using DreamUP but I kept getting the error "Cannot open COM; Aborting" (Tried COM1-5 still kept getting error)

I am now attempting to flash using FlashWizard PRO and I am stuck at 84% on "writing and verifying cramfs memory partition"

    The image is OpenPLi-beta-dm500-20120723-268

    Any advice?

Forget the crappy adapter and do it on a desktop pc with windows xp with null modem and ethernet cable it will fly through it.

That helped very little. I have 3 desktop PC's in the house, none of which have a 9 pin serial port.

Ok, if this helps at all

Every version of DreamUP i tried, allows me to get as far as "Power on you box" when I set the COM to COM3. Every time i get to this point and power up the box. NOTHING happens. Anyone have any idea why this might be happening?

I do want help mate, just thought what you said wasn't very helpful. It was more of a "Haha, your doing it wrong" statement. I think most people would have gathered that aswell. I'm not here to be a wideo nor am I here to suck up peoples arses.

if u have a router connect the serial cable and the internet cable click network and add the ip of your box , it will flash over the internet cable instead ,, sounds like u have a driver problem with your usb to serial . if u dont no your boxes ip go into your router ip and see the ip its has connected too

                    or

First make sure the receiver is connected to your router, now kill the power to the box, hold in the only button on the front of the receiver, and power it on.

After about 20 seconds, you will notice the red/green lights are going wierd, this is an actual code that I***8217;ll explain in a moment, but you can now let go of the power button.

The receiver has now gone into ###STOP### mode, has been given an IP address and is waiting to be flashed, now watch the lights, have a pen if you need one, and wait for the red and green to be on together.

The green light will flash once, then a quick red flash, 9 greens, one red, 2 green, 1 red, 1 green, 1 red, 6 green, 1 red, 8 green, 1 red.

The receiver has just flashed you some numbers, with a red flash as a marker between them, and its just told you the start of an IP address, 192.168 etc.

A long red flash is a zero, so my box now flashed one long red, another long red, 1 green, 1 quick red, one long red, 1 green, i fast red and 2 green

Now the red and green come on together, and it starts over again.

                    192168001012;s just flashed out :

192168001012 which translates to the IP 192.168.1.12

never tried this as my network magic tells me the the ip of the box when connected

hers my usb serial drivers use this

this is the best dreamup too

                      cheers mate!

tried this repeatedly for about 25 mins, it didn't work. No matter how long i held the button in before and after powering it on the light never changed from green.

Thanks mate, I conveniently decided to bugger my only PC with a 9 pin serial port the day before the box arrived... I am so annoyed!

You could always buy a box that has already been flashed and put this one on fleabay?

As Jok also said these adapters are not very good your best bet is to find an old desktop pc from a car boot or maybe a friend or buy a new com port and install it.
