I've now managed to get my hands on an old desktop running XP. It has 2 COM ports on the back aswell as a printer port. In the device manager all 3 ports are showing with yellow triangles and when I try to update the drivers, they wont update. FML!

Does the box turn on ?

If so do you get the menu of the box?

If so goto menu then 6 then expert setup, (make sure lan is connected) get IP of the box

Get Dcc 295 then connection type router

type the IP of the box and router. not put in user = root and try dreambox
if not then factory reset and the pass will now be dreambox or dvb500 or blade depending in the 500s model you have

Now once connected (all green lines)

click tools on left hand tab

        then update flash image

        select image then execute

then ok or yes to prompt to flash over lan.

Ok, so now managed to get COM1 and COM2 working on this PC running windows XP. I have the null cable in COM1 and the other end in the dreambox with no power cable in. In DreamUP I selected COM1 as the port, clicked connect, status says "Connection prepared. now switch on the dreambox!" I put in the power cable... nothing happens. Same for COM2. I could actually cry with frustration.

I am presuming now that what I purchased the other day was a regular RS-232 and not a Null Modem cable. I think it'll work if I get the correct cable!
