    DM500s HELP NEEDED!

My friend has a DM500s that I ordered for him from The Leader of Dreambox supplier, Discount Everyday! and it has broken.

The green LED comes on when powered on, but no signal is sent to the TV, and the box doesn't connect to the internet, as I have tried re-flashing via ethernet, and also via RS-232 cable but it doesn't connect through either.

I have submitted a returns request on the site I ordered it from 5 times, but I have had no reply, it has been about 4 weeks.

Does anyone know another way to contact this site other than through the site? Maybe a direct email address?

I have ordered from this site before, and have been using my own DM500s from this site for over 2 years, and had no issues.

If noone knows another way to contact them, then can anyone offer some help? Maybe how to fix? Or anyplace that does Dreambox repairs?

    Thanks

Is that not the same as the rs232 cable?

a null modem cable is a specific cable that has crossover wires inside it, so its wired in a specific way and has male plugs on both ends too, its wired as pin 2 to pin 3 , pin 3 to pin 2 and pin 5 to pin 5

a standard rs232 cable is male to female plugs and its straight wired, so pin 1 to pin 1 , pin 2 to pin 2 etc

so its not enough to state its an rs232 cable as all that means is that its a communication cable and has no bearing on how the wires inside are connected, but is generally stright wired.

but a null modem cable has specific meaning to how the internal wires are connected

have a look here to see various wiring examples

            The RS232 Standard

so if you have a null modem cable , its an rs232 cable wired in null modem configuration, as opposed to one of the other wiring configs

but you appear to have a usb to rs232 adapter, which is not a null modem cable but converts from usb to rs232

this http://www.cabling4less.co.uk/catego...FYcKfAodDScA_Q is a null modem cable and is what you should be using

Hmm are you using the correct drivers for the USB adaptor?
              Are you using dreamup?
Have you selected the correct com port in dreamup?

use a proper null modem cable from a desktop or tower pc that has a proper 9 pin com port and dont use usb adapters at all

here is the cable you need Null Modem Cables

                        Yup no messages or anything.

And when I plug an ethernet cable in, a red light comes on inside the box like normal, but the box isnt connected to the router, I've looked in the router settings at what devices are connected and the box isn't there

and therein lies your problem , usb adapters are notorious for not working as the timing fails

get the correct tools and you may resurrect that box, but I have never had any luck with usb to serial adapters and so I always use an xp desktop pc with standard 9 pin com port on the rear and a proper null modem cable like I linked to

that combination has flashed routers, cable boxes and sat boxes of various types, whereas the usb adapters are in a drawer unused

It does sound like its dead
I use a USB adaptor myself. I've flashed loads of boxes without problem. But I did have to change the driver from the original on.
