right guys i tried using Iport instead of dreamup and after a few attempts i got this far:

        Opening COM port
        Connecting to receiver....
        Receiver found!
        Model Illuminati I-1
        Sending flash loader
        Waiting for flashloader

Then it didnt go anywhere. If i get this again is it just a case that maybe you have to wait for awhile?

No difference at all mate,if you can just try it on a desktop pc rather than a laptop and you should be fine.

That will be your problem, what you need is an older desktop pc with the correct com1 port.I tried an adapter and it didnt work for me either.
Either that or ask the forum for an adapter that def works.

BAckup your image when all setup then its a simple repeat process for a full backup. Lot easier than starting from scratch.

Serial ports take longer but i find it the much better way to do things. More reliable and less conflict when it comes to drivers updating etc.

have to agree mate the usb serial adaptor never worked for me i tried on xp and vista with no luck also tried so many versions or dreamup with the adaptor and iport. also tried different drivers. once i got the old desktop out worked first time on the serial port.

                        also created a back up

dont think ill be flashing anytime soon im happy with pli jade 3 should have just stuck to what im happy with but no doubt ill fancy a change again. but now ill be using dreamup

I thought that was your problem,i had exactly the same thing with mine.I thought buying an adapter for a laptop would be easier but i never got mine to work either yet my old 10 year desktop pc does it every time.

                            Glad you sorted it mate.

                            Andy.

my adapter works a treat on an old XP laptop (Toshiba Satellite)

bought it off eBay years ago.. (Jul 07)

Just checked the exact spec from my feedback and searched the same sellers shop..

This is the exact item i have and it works for me

USB to RS232 Serial Cable COM DB 9 Pin Male New Lead on eBay (end time 01-Jan-11 09:30:06 GMT)

I use it with this exact lead from the same supplier
