    Adding hard drive ?

I'm looking to add a hard drive so I can record on my dm800hd clone. Is it easy to do and are there any reccomendations on which drives work best ?

Yes very easy to do,just like adding a hard drive to a PC, just depends what option you want...... external or internal hard drive.

Internal drives will be the type you fit in laptops, i think there is a maximum size you cant go beyond (320GB rings a bell but not fully sure). Most makes of drives are reliable now.

I use a seagate 160GB drive but if your going to do a lot of recording i would probably go larger in size.

the dm800 uses a sata connection inside.

Another thing to be aware of is that the dm800 runs hot and putting a hard drive inside will make it warmer still so on the grounds of reliability and longevity i would think about some extra cooling. I have a laptop cooler under mine which has a blue light, looks reasonably cool and looks made for the job, most of all keeps it cooler.

Where can I get a laptop cooler and does it need to be plugged into the mains ? I've got enough plugs already.

Would an external hard drive be better ?

Local pound shop or ebay. They are usb powered. One I have comes with twin ends on the usb so that it does not use up a usb port.

So an internal sata 320gb would be ok with a dm800hd clone ?

                  2.5" mate.

Id get the smaller netbook coolers, fit the dreambox perfectly, I have one under it, and one ontop of it.. cold as ice.. haha

You can get 2.5inch drives up to 1gig now and that I think would be the limit, I have a 500meg drive fitted which has worked perfectly for a long time now I would also recomend putting a laptop cooler underneath.

I will get a laptop cooler but I heard that you could only get a maximum of 320gb as a hard drive for an dm800. Is that not correct ?

i think the dreambox spec lists a 320gb drive (maybe that was max size when dreambox went into production) but it looks like larger sizes work also. i suppose it depends what the max size the dreambox can access.

                          Doesn't seem a lot of space! 500MB?
Do you mean you have a 500GB up and running? If so can anyone verify the max size?
