I'm looking to add a hard drive so I can record on my dm800hd clone. Is it easy to do and are there any reccomendations on which drives work best ?

Yes very easy to do,just like adding a hard drive to a PC, just depends what option you want...... external or internal hard drive.
Internal drives will be the type you fit in laptops, i think there is a maximum size you cant go beyond (320GB rings a bell but not fully sure). Most makes of drives are reliable now. -
I use a seagate 160GB drive but if your going to do a lot of recording i would probably go larger in size.
the dm800 uses a sata connection inside.
Another thing to be aware of is that the dm800 runs hot and putting a hard drive inside will make it warmer still so on the grounds of reliability and longevity i would think about some extra cooling. I have a laptop cooler under mine which has a blue light, looks reasonably cool and looks made for the job, most of all keeps it cooler.Comment

i think the dreambox spec lists a 320gb drive (maybe that was max size when dreambox went into production) but it looks like larger sizes work also. i suppose it depends what the max size the dreambox can access.Comment

Doesn't seem a lot of space! 500MB?
Do you mean you have a 500GB up and running? If so can anyone verify the max size?Comment
