    DM800SE FAILURE

My wife got up this morning then came back upstairs to tell me dm800se not working, so i got up and sure enough box looked frozen so i switched it off then switched back on after a few minutes. now box oled screen says "2nd failure" with a little picture of a chip can cable...... any ideas anyone? should i try and reflash new image.
If you keep button pressed when powering up does not do anything. Is there another way to flash these boxes?

First thing I would do is open it up and make sure the tuner is seated properly. You could then try flashing with a null modem cable if that doesn't work. Should be loads of threads on here about it detailing the correct procedure.

Ive not heard of that problem yet mate. You should try reflashing using sunray flasher and a usb cable, you dont use a null modem cable as mentioned in the previous post above.

Sorry, hes right. With the SE you don't/can't use a null modem cable.

thanks all will give it ago in a few minutes.

Ok have given sunray a try but still no luck
when switching on dreambox windows loads the usb driver, select comport in sunray to new virtual port, press connect on sunray, sunray then says switch on dreambox, durrrr its already on! if you switch off dreambox the virtual comport driver is unloaded, so this seems an impossible task.

i think the problem is a little more involved as the dm says "2nd failure" on the oled screen. How do i recover from that, anyone know?

Ok done some more testing...... apparently the driver stays loaded so dont think that is the issue.
so ive left the dm800se off until sunray says turn it on but still nothing happens.

          The sim says dm800se 2.10

when sunray tells you to put power on...does it recognise the 800se and then load bootloader. then does the flash button become active??....if so, you should see ip on oled. do you???

No sunray doesnt recognise the 800 so flash button doesnt become enabled and ive had 800 apart and checked sim by removing, cleaning and then reseating it back in holder still no joy.

i borrowed another laptop from work which has xp on and outcome exactly the same.

have you spoken to your supplier mate...this is something totally new.....maybe they may have some idea...

just to be sure. you turn it on and the oled says '2nd failure' and comes on quickly like the no ca error does.

yea switch on, oled shows dream multimedia logo then comes up with a picture of a chip and usb cable with 2nd failure in red in picture.

supplier has said flash new image but thats not possible as no comms with 800, am waiting his reply.

For this specific problem use dreamup 1.3.3.8 tick "use network". Press connect and after a few seconds the bootloader will be flashed and you will see the box's IP address.

                        Do NOT press flash.

Instead input your box's IP into your browser and flash with your original or new firmware. Reboot box.

You can find dreamup 1.3.3.8 here http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums...-1-3-3-8-1822/

Tried with 1.3.3.8 as you have said, box does not show IP address and cannot be found by browser. Dreamup doesnt see the box....... bottom left where it says type: stays blank

so it looks like this box has died completely

It's not dead, just bad sectors reported. Try bad sector repair with 1.3.3.8. you will find it in extras of Dreamup.
