    Need DM800 Recovery Help Please

    Hi,

I have recently had a DM800HD play up on me. Was working fine but has recenlty died I will try to explain the issues as clear as possible.

The box will boot to the installed image (Dreamelite) eventually afer a long delay on the dhcp LCD screen. Although it seems to boot successfully, and LCD shows channel info there is no output to TV. i.e via DVI or RCA outputs.

I have tried to reflash the box via Serial but the box fails to communicate with DreamUp.

On first power-up the Ethernet leds light up as normal but about 5seconds after power on they extinguish and never come back on even though connected to router or PC via crossover. They turn off at the point that the LCD screen displays dhcp info. If i hold the power putton on power-up to trigger **stop** and webfront the same occurs. No IP is ever obtained as the ethernet seems to shutdown. As a result i am unable to reflash using the webfront. The ethernet port appears to die 5 seconds after power on.

I have 3 other DM800HD's a 500s and two 500c's and have never enountered this problem. Serial Null Modem cable works fine on all other boxes, my network, cabling and dhcp server are fine. I just cannot successfully connect to this box.

I have opend the box, removed modem, tuner. no change, the box appears to boot successfully according to the LCD screen no error messages however the ethernet LED's still extinguish approx 5 seconds after powere on, and serial will not connect to dreamup.

If i remove the SIM (2.01) then the box will not boot...immediatly giving the boot 'error!' message as expected. However and this is interesting.. the ethernet port LEDs remain lit. Unfrtunatly Serial still will not connect.

The serial bootlog is spitting out jibberish as the box boots.. (as if the serial speed is incorrect) i have tried all speeds including 9600 and 115200 to no avail.

I have tried all the patched dreamup/enforcer techniques including connecting dreamup to another box to connect then switching to broken box to flash but everthing fails to communicate with the box.

Not sure what is going on and i havnt come across anyone else with this kind of problem yet. Can anyone reccomend anything else i can try inorder to salvage this box.

    Thanks.

Failing power supplies can cause all kinds of bizarre behavior. Seeing as you have a few others, have you tried swapping it out?

I get exactly the same problem if power is removed from the box for any reason
what I have to do is leave the power off the box for a couple of hours and before reinstating the power I reboot my router and modem
switch box back on and it then shows my blackhole image booting and all is OK (if image doesn't show within a few seconds I switch back off and wait longer)

          Hi smoggy,

Just confirming.. my box will boot everytime i power it on, the problem is the ethernet/serial not working.

Ether way i shall try when i get home, the box has been off for 24 hours+ and ill try connecting serially/ethernet from 1st power on in the hope it works...

yes mine showed DCHP and went through the motions of booting (but didn't show the Blackhole logo image as normal just a blank screen) when finished it even showed the time and the channel it was on but there was no picture and no response from the remote

gave it another go but it hasnt made a difference. dreamup wont connect and the ethernet dies 5 seconds later, box still boots though.

Im familiar with DM800's not powering up sometimes after a quick hard reset and having to let the capacitors drain before trying again. The problem with this box is completely different.

              any other suggestions?

cheers.. i have loads of patch cords. straight through and crossovers. its the port that dies cable/network is tested and fine.

i think my only hope is Jtag. Does anyone have Jtag instructions for DM800?

try this method mate see if this helps its for reflashing image.
run dreamup , connect DM800 with cable
under dreamup select network and in the remote ip (box) put the ip you want for your box
now switch on the dreambox, dreamup will prepared the box for flash
                        when ready for flash
take the remote ip (box) then follow the procedure through the web now
                        192,168.xxxx.xxx
