surely thats an aftermarket heat-sink or botch job , as why would a manufacturer go to the trouble to build a unit that can accept internal hdd , only to make it useless with an over-sized heat-sync

edit . just zoomed in and the motherboard does seem to be manufactured to that heat-sync , (retainer bar has an anchor in the area normal 800pro has 3pin power connection)
very weird , i know manufacturers are always looking at ways to make units cheaper , but they seem to have made a booboo with this not being able to house an internal hdd

take it and off and measure the cpu

          might be 30mm by 30mm or 40mm by 40mm
          about 7mm to 10mm high

then look on ebay for that size heatsink

stick some thermal paste between cpu & heatsink

or cut the one you aready have to size

You could just mark where the heatsink fouls the HDD connector, take the heatsink off and then take a hacksaw to the heatsink? Only cut off the min you need to, that way the heatsink will hopefully keep on doing it's job.

What did you end up doing? Reason I ask is that I've just got an 800hd and it looks exactly the same as yours i.e a a big heatsink in place of the small heatsink and fan but as you said the damned hard disk can't be installed.

I've asked the supplier, will be interesting to see what they say.

ya , not stuck on like the orange heatsinks that usually come with, when reinstalling , got termal paste which i use for pcs, clears hdd now, just need it same level as hdd tray,

i think the chinease need to rethink on this design

They've clearly done this to save on having to send out loads of fans within the warranty period so get rid of the fan and replace with a lump of metal seems like a sound idea except that they obviously don't expect anybody to install a hard disk.

and its really pissing me off!!!

will have to go the hacksaw route.......cant belive how stupid the manufacturers are!

i guess the cheap price didn't make me think twice!

Well most of the pics I saw of the 800hd still show the fan so I didn't spot it till I had the box in my hand.

I managed to hacksaw off the damn heatsink, not pretty
but had to be done, thats the last time i'm ordering a
                            DM800PRO.

                            Pictures provided below.

I recommend using a electric saw, I tried manually but i couldnt feel my hands after 5 mins!!!

Iv had a DM800 for almost 2yrs... Without no heatsink or fan.... And it's still going!!!

The only thing that overheats is the tuner.
