any guidence for for a newby to satellite

Hi I am looking to use a dm800 just beacuse i was sort of familiar with there set up from using the cable version a few years ago.

I would like to be able to record but not sure if this box allows this function?

I would also be greatfull if some one could point me in the right direction as to the type of motorized dish i would need and possibly were i could purchse one for the right price?

Also is the sowtware used on the dm800s as easy to use as it was on the dm500c i.e installing the image ??

Thanking any one who can help me in advance hopefully i can have all this up and running in the net few weeks football season starting hahaha

For anyone to give you advice on what dish to buy as well as size we would need to know roughly what area you live in as this has a major impact on what you can receive

Ok North west next thing is to give us an idea of what sort of channels/Packages you want to pick up and also where you want to install the system as a clear line of sight will be needed.

Use this Satellite Finder / Dish Alignment Calculator with Google Maps | DishPointer.com put your full address in the top and then drop down the second box and scroll down to moteck SG2100 and place the marker over your house in the best position you can to see if you can receive all satellites within the range you want, Just change the moteck option to any satellite from 30? west to 45? east.

Dishpointer will let you know if you have any obstructions in your line of sight

I would forget about 28.2? east as it will shortly be gone, Although there is still plenty open with softcam keys and even EPL on feeds over different satellites and the channels you want some can be got through keys and some of course will need something else which we cannot discuss on here.

Softcam keys will cover a few 3pm kickoffs from 39? east and 0.8? west as well as a couple of other satellites, I would aim to get at least a 1m dish setup which will cover you for most eventualities.

You would be better with the 800se for the extra cash and make sure you get an A8P sim version

what advnatages does that give me over the 800hd? really appreciate your guidence. bit of a learning curve for me from using the old cable versions.

from what a gather the box provides the dish with the info to point at the sat you wish to view channels from do you have to switch sats for different channels?

how easy is it to install the image onto the the dream box is it as easy as the old versions and as you said in the previous post it sounds lke the box needs keys like the old cable version did to get the channels r the keys generated automatically when you install the image??

the SE has faster processor and is a lot more responsive than the standard 800, faster boot up time , and less heat issues as it has a large fan installed. the a8p sim is the latest clone manufacturers tool that allows the box to use the latest unpatched images just like a genuine non clone dreambox, other clones/sim types must use specific modified images for there specific sim type (sim2. Ferrari, estar are the popular teams). Once the tuner has been told what type of dish setup you have it will move the dish accordingly to the sat that the channel you choose broadcasts on. installing images is a doddle (see youtube for "flashing a dm800"), however I would advise you to research the actual image you intend to flash as it must be for your specific sim type , if not the box will be temporarily bricked with a "no ca error" fault. not sure on the keys as I don't personally use softcams.
