    technomate 5402hd error

hi all, i need some help, info. just bought a technomate 5402hd and been using it for nearly a week, when i was watching channels it was scrambling every now and again bot the line was connected

anyway to cut a very long story short, i went into the setting on my virgin media router and found that evertime the channel scrambled i was getting a DHCP failed error which would explain why this was happening.

i sought some advice and was told to turn off DHCP on the technomate and input manually the ip setting etc

there is a problem here because i cannot enter a single digit

for example if i need to enter 192.189.1.0

i cannot do the single digits i can only do 100.000 on the single digits

anyway i dont even know if this will be a fix for the dhcp error

has anyone else had a similar problem?

    this only happens on technomate

i have been using ethernet on starview and kryptview and never had the same problem.

does anyone know how to sort this?

is it bad packets been senf from my line?

    any info would be good

if you want to enter .1. you can enter it as .001. would be the same thing or .010. for .10. ect.
so would enter the line you use as an example you would do this 192.189.001.000

did you ever change your router to dhcp settings auto enable
when you had your tm on auto and are you using the latest patch ?

yes i changed my router to auto enable and dhcp usage on, on the technomate

i also turned dhcp off on the router and entered manual on the technomate.

          did not make much difference.

i have now upgraded my broadband with vm from 10mb to 30mb and will be getting a new hub sent out and will have faster broadband for watching hd channels, hopefully i will get no glitching!!

it could also be my provider but they swear blind there is no issues there end

you will almost always have some glitching unless the server
is sh*thot and not greedy 10mb should be more then sufficient
to make it work properly mine is working fine on a provider that works at upto 8mb so i'm lucky if it's ever that and i have no problems most of the time. Are you using the latest patch?
            Download center
            With the streaming working ?
as for "it could also be my provider but they swear blind there is no issues there end"
they always say this best thing is to pm some other costumer on the servers thread and ask what they think of the service.

to be honest its getting on my nervs now, my channels scramble but i still have a connection. at first i thought it was the line so i got another and the same thing happens.

the only way to connect again is to turn the connection off or pull the ethernet cable out or restart the router.

i have checked my router and dont think this is the problem i have checked all the connections

i am thinking its a issue with the box, maybe a dodgy ethernet socket, but how can i take this back the shop and prove this?

                you could ring technomate uk they exchanged some other peolple's tm's tm5402's TEL: 020 8884 0545 / 020 8884 0701
A lot of other tm users that have rang said they were very helpfull and friendly and maybe they know what's
wrong will do no harm to give them a buzz
the only thing i'm thinking is that it could be vm that have something monitoring cs on their broadband because they have sly channels too, i did not hear this about them yet but it is possible

have you an other lead to try out to rule out it's a problem with your lan lead and they do know what you use the tm for they just don't "officially" support the patches

update here , got another line and let it run overnight.

again chanells scrambled picture frozen and the line says connected.

again the only way to unscramble the channels is to disconnect line or router.

i checked my event log on the router and no errors.

i just cannot figure this out.

i have done the following to troubleshoot:

factory reset and installed firmware again.
                        new ethernet lead.
turned off dhcp on router and entered ip manual on technomate.
turned on dhcp on router and turned on dhcp on technomate box.
                        changed connections for broadband cable.
tried various lines newcamd and camm.

                        its just driving me mad.

i have just upgraded my broadband and will get the new router on wednesday. so i will have 30mb broadband and a faster router. this is the last thing i can do before narrowing it down to the box itself.

i am going to let the box run tonight on a scrambled non high definition channel and see what happens.

any other suggestions from anyone would be appreciated before i end up smashing my box up!!! ha ha!! thats how i feel at the minute!

i still think you should give them a buzz they might have some more suggestions to try and they have exchanged tm5402 with some problems before. I never had any problems like that before, after the proper way of loading patches.

just to add most servers would reboot their server over night
best thing is to reboot your router every morning

aaahh ok so if they reboot overnight this would explain why it would scramble and not connect?

and i have to reconnect every morning.

i was thinking of selling it now and getting a 7102hd
