          Dick you can input manually.

          1) press yellow button;
          2) start up tuxbox commander:
          3) navigate to var/keys folder;
          4) scroll to and highlight softcam.key;
          5) press 4;
          6) you should now be able to edit with the remote.

          Ca you not just rig up to the net though mate a lot easier?

              thanks "Bugaloo"&"jackpot" I"m a bit lost when it comes to IT skills.I got the tm500 to play with and will try the manual method(it doesnt have to be easy I just enjoy trying to do it).I do have internet its not broadband though just dial up with an internal modem, but the tower has an ethernet port so I"ve got a cable on order and will see if that works.This is just a rig I"ve set up in the bedroom so I can play without annoying the rest of the family.

                      Hi Dick cancel the network cable m8, what you need is a null modem cable. If you want to use the network adapter on your PC to connect to your STB you will need a cross-over cable. Something you will never use again. In allmost all cases a null modem cable (cross-over serial) will serve you better now and in the future.

                      Download any files via your dial up to your PC then transfer to STB via null modem cable.

                        I"ve already tried to load via tcc 7.1 without success as you say I could not do it with the ethernet cable either and ur image dated 20-01-10 still had the plug in I needed missing so its back to finding an image with it on I"ll download some more and try them.
                        thanks dick b

                          Hi, D

                          slight mis, you wont be able to with a Standard ethernet cable. See attached pic. A crossover ethernet will be fine in a stand alone PC to STB with a modem. Your PC (windows 95b upwards) will act as DHCP server and give your stb an ip address for communication.

                          You could use a hub/switch to connect the 2, this will require 2 normal ethernet cables but be doing the same job as a cross over.

                          You could use a router (dosen't need to be attached to internet) this way the router will do the job of DHCP server, for addressing, and you can plug in/out your stb and PC at will. This would in most cases let you network other devices as well. This way you can ftp (i really like filezilla ftp client) via your new LAN.
                          This will require a router, 2 ethernet cables. But possibly a crossover ethernet cable if the router dosen't have a crossover port.

                          Its money in the end mate, crossover ethernet (home made or new) being the cheapest.

                          But be carefull if stripping up a UTP cable the sleeving is very thin, use your finger nails not a knife or pliers.

                            Oops. Forgot

                            UK and Europe use 568b wiring Americans use 568a. Cross over happens to be one of each wiring pattern on either end.

                              Oops 2

                              with a router you wont need a crossover cable just one normal ethernet for each device.
