New system installed... How do i set it up? =)

Hi, i just installed a new system, it consists of 2x vu+duo's (not clones) and a motorised dish (technomate 2300).

Me and my dad have everything connected up, im just trying to configure the one box at the minute before i move on to the other one.

so, im having a bit of bother at present. let me list my actions from a factory reset on the receiver.

    1. Select english langauge

    2. Use wizard to setup features

    3. Please setup tuner A
    Configuration mode : simple
    Mode : DISEqC A/B
    Port A: Astra/Eurobird (28.2E)
Port B: nothing connected (i selected that?)
Set voltage and 22 KHz : Yes
Send DISEqC only on satellite change : no

    4. Please setup tuner B : nothing configured

    5. Install default sat lists? : Yes

    6. Please choose the default services lists you wish to install : Astra/Eurobird (28.2E) Yes

    7. Finished configuring.

Now on the next screen its showing me tv favourites and tv listings but everything says <n/a>?

Have i set everything up ok according to those settings? ie should i at least be getting some sort of picture?

When i have selected a random channel number the SNR is at "0"

The satellite is definitely setup pointing to 28.2 but im not 100% sure on the high etc.

Is there anything i else i can do to try and configure it?

I really appreciate all your help!

Your configuration mode is wrong for starters for a motorised dish it should be:

      Then carry on from there

        Thanks.

According to the sat finder website my details should read

        latitute : 54.732

        longtitude : -6.216

Because my longtitude reads "minus" do i set it to west instead of east then?

Also, when i do a automatic search of channels after ive set everything up for 28.2, it starts to scan a different satellite? ie it was scanning an arab sat last night instead of 28.8?

Would a hand held satellite finder be helpful?

If i have my dad downstairs tweaking the dish and im at the receiver how can i tell hes got a good signal? is the only way to tell is if he moves it a bit then i try a channel search? is there an easier way to tell like a SNR option to see real time signal?

        thanks again!

I would also suggest you have a read of this thread here:

This should help you on your way, as for channel lists you can either upload one via DBedit or download one from the feeds depending on which image you are using.

WEST when you found out your co-ordinates the website or program you used should have told you this information

                unfortunately it never.

im really having no joy here at all. i could only set my dish up in a south east position on the wall. everywhere i read it seems it needs to be set up facing directly south, so im assuming these coordinates will mean nothing?

ive no idea what to try next, all im doing at present is tilting the dish up and down then checking the receiver for a signal.

will a sat finder work in my situation?

You really need to read through most of the guides on here about setting up a motorised dish if this is your first attempt, as every eventuality is covered in the guides and should get you started.

If you still struggle then it might be worth calling a local installer in to do it for you.

is there any real up to date guides?

that guide you posted, we've basically done all that, our only real concern is the dish pointing south and working from there.

At present the dish is pointing 120 degrees south east.

set your dish EL at 30 and point your dish to south.. look were the sky dishes are pointing and turn it a couple of inches to the right. once your usals setting are in tell dish to go to one west then move motor L+R and dish bracket el up and down to find a signal, use bbc world on 1 west. you need a great deal of pateince but it can be done.. as long as your lat is correct on your motor, lat/long are correct in stb, pole is plumb and no line of sight issues you should get 45e to 45w after a full days tweaking. good luck, regards mdt

What are my options if i cant get the dish pointing directly south? also, im assuming the coordinates will mean nothing if the dish isnt facing south?

the dish must face south if not you will never find the correct arc
if the dish is mounted on a pole on the house wall you can try putting it
on a north facing wall on a longer pole so the dish looks south over the
roof. or can you see the arc from the ground in the back garden and install
                          the dish there.

What if i turn the satellite so its facing south? ie leave the motor bracket where its pointing then turn the satellite bracket so its facing south? will that work? it would save me relocating the whole motor and stuff.

                            thanks again.

ps im planning on using a couple of satellites once the premier league kicks off so i dont want to be stuck with 28.2 etc so i need the motor to work.

Right, ive had a good look and fiddle about with the satellite dish. it looks like its possible to turn the whole motor and stuff so everything is pointing to south! so thats good news! im going to follow what you guys said once its done and go from there. so watch this space!
