the latest images are not that important. there are plenty of older images that give you a good stable performance and enjoyable experiance. All the stuff in the latest feeds can easily be got anyhow.

the main gamble with a clone in my view, is getting hardware reliability. like many have said, it's only the bad batch that get reported.

i thought this clone v3 was a hardware update. if not, it's not really a problem even of v4 is required. an old image will get you by and give you a good experiance as long as the hardware doesn't pack in.

there were unconfirmed rumours that the v3 clone may have an updated security module . As the current one apparently is not fast enough to counter the New anti clone measures also the tune failed issue is caused when changing channels is due to the security module not responding to queries fast enough. This is as mentioned though unconfirmed at this point.

Bearing in mind the orginal post, it was the reason i thought it would be a hardware update.

Otherwise, very early on you had clones which had been pre-flashed via serial adapter and those which had not - selling at the same price.

Why would a software update significantly lower the price? If you can turn a v2 into a v3 with very little, i doubt it would just be just a software update.

Bearing in mind the above post from gsmtech, it does seem the v3 clone is likely to have a hardware "update" of sorts. Is there a way to speed up the security modules via some sort of low level update?

If not, then v3 will have new hardware. Problem with this, is that it sounds like vu+ manufacturers may be able to easily counter this with driver updates, prolonging the cat and mouse game. On the positive side of things, as the duo2 is due in coming months, they might just allow the duo clone market to prosper and not provide new security drivers for it as they will need to concentrat on the duo2 release (drivers).

Also just remeber there are plenty of old images which are pretty stable that work on all clones. Plugins and additions can easily be installed via ftp and does not require feeds
