I have problem with one "Genuine Ross Tech" tool, during TEST in VCDS it doesn't show correct things, sometimes FW version 3.20, sometimes status of CAN only, it could be quartz on PCB or something?

It was shared here in this thread as I remember.
One advise for that tool mate.
Tools as that one will not work ok and haven;t all the functions aviable.
Bacause it hasn't any GAL or ATF.
That tools it is a BIG pics of sh...t
But you can try to flash it if you want too
You can try to use 11.2 and 11.11.0 dump ( becasue this one are for free ) and use softwears and loaders for it.
As I said you can try but I don't know if it will works

Probably there is other connection because I have tested this dump in old 10.6.2 RL clone where I have removed GAL and use wires in his place, and serial is readen but banned.

Sorry mate but be more clear what you need.
If you use a clone tool then this one will work in 99.99% of cases only with the softwears that it comes
If you are talking about chinese tools then you have to know that in most of the case the tool can be erased if you are using internetn connection in the computer where you have installed and activated the VCDS softwear or if you are trying to upgrade the softwear or if youa re using other version that the one that you recive on the cd media that it came with the tool.
The softwears that are not moded by chinese cannot be "damaged" by that I told you yet and it is working 100% as a original softwear.
But this kind of tools ( as chinese starting to do it as well ) has the tool adn the softwear "marriaged"
If you are using a genuine tool then you can upgrade it by internet using ross-tech web site or using upgrades from your softwear.

Mate this it was discussed many times here in this forum.
If you didn;t read it or you passed that information the if you like to use that VCDS 12.10.3 ( which is a piece of sh...t in my opinion ) you have to open the softwear then you have to go to ABOUT and check the release version
After this turn off the VCDS softwear and change the computer date with one near to the date of the release VCDS date. Ofcourse one or two days after this one.
This is a problem of the Betas versions but you have to be able to work with it.
If you'll not be able then this it can be a hardwear problem.

You have to choose C:\Ross-Tech\VCDS or VCDS Beta if you try VCDS 12.10.3
After you isntall the driver maybe it will work
Which is good VCDS 11.11.3 or VCDS 12.10.3?

You need to use dump for the sw version you wanna use. And as i know your tool it is a FTDi RL one base then for the softwera you'll need a Loader too

My friend give me VCDS 11.11 with FT232BM.
After connecting to PC it is visable in Device Manager as correct cable. But after some time (sometimes few minutes, soetimes few second) its disappears.
When I reconecting cable its the same. I replaced the USB cable but no change.

What you think, it is damage FT chip or bad soldering on PCB?

Can be bad soldering but 99% it is a bad FTDi chip.
Change it and you'll have no problem
( I have this issues in many low quality cables but also in one or two HQ clone too )

P.S. - this issue come in 99.99% of cases because you use the tool plugged to the car and USB and then you plug the power cable to the laptop because you have a low battery. My advise is in this cases to unplug the tool first then plug the power cable and after few seconds you can plug the tool back. But the better it is not using the tool in this condition.

i discovered in my old stuff one piece of HEX-COM-CAN interface. When i tried it on, it was 1.36 firmware in it. I reprogrammed atmega with 11.11.0 dump and now it's not visible by any version starting from 704.1. Does anybody know what should be done to revive this interface because it has excellent hardware. (see pics) Thanks. I forgot to say that only version 409 could read firmware 1.84 but it's too old for any proper usage.

1) The firmware(eeprom atmega) for com-port version of the adapter is necessary to you. The firmware 11.11.0 (on this thread) is calculated on usb-adapter version with FT232B chip.
2) Or to delete MAX232 chip. To seal FT232B chip instead of it.
3) Or write loader....

That's right. Such fuses stand on new cables from Ross. These a cable have a bootloader with large volume.

You have no new flash and a bootloader. Therefore you will use the old. Therefore fuses it is necessary to use the old. It everything is written in datasheets.

2. the tutorial say to open the "VCDS_805_Atmega_162.bin", if i am flshaing 11.11.0, do I need to do everything exectly the same except openning the 11.11.0 dump?

If the above are silly questions please excuse me, and please don't send me to search again, I really tried.

Mate if you are a pro why don;t you buy a tool that cannot be erased it.
Ok it cost a littel bit more but you haven't this problem. Becasue it will not be erased even you use the internet connection diring a diagnostic session and you have all function as a genuine one.
If you use your tool only to read DTC as 90% of Vag users then you can use the procedures without GAL

In your case you can reprogramm ATMEGA with proper dump and use the 11.11.0 installer with loader for "RL version". The loader is necesary with or without GAL, no metter. Solution without GAL was shared...

i resolve very easy , my interface vag com 11.11, with gal,ftdi 232bl,no stc.
i flash atmega 162,with dump 11.11 --- flash+ eeprom----- (on the forum,here) .FOR FLASHING I USE UPA, evrething work good, time for operation 30 min.
i mention that i not use any setting about fuse bits or else.
i test interface on few cars and work very good.

i cant find anywhere that i need to supply 5V directly to the pcb - i did read somewhere to connect the USB to the PC during the flash and supply 12V to the PCB.

You can supply 5v in this way or better is to supply 12v directlly in the obd connector ( pins 4-5 gnd and pin 16 as +12v )
In both of the cases the power supply gnd must be soldered togeter with the programmer gnd

You need to understand one thing and that is: Atmega is not powered via USB port, you have to power atmega either via programmer or external supply. From my experience it is safer to supply power from programmer than any other way because sometimes LM7805 can be unstable or doesn't supply pure 5 volts - depending on quality. Forget USB cable, it has nothing to do with atmega programming only for FTDI programming.

In this case you may have a surprise: a short circuit existing on +5V to GND, if programmer's (+5V) are not protected, you can damage the programmer. Is more expansive like a 7805.
I prefer power up the cable with +12V.

Friends I have an issue and I need some help. I have a VCDS 11.11 clone that I have been using during sometime without any problem. But today scanning a friend's car, during an autoscan, the program suddenly at almost the last module, sends a message that the interface was not registered/certified limiting it functionality. I try to close and open the program, unplug and plug again the interface but it remains not registered/certified.
Then what can be done to make it work as usual?. Some tips will be really helpful.

First of all you have to read just a littel bit in this thread and you'll figure it out that your tool it is allready erased.

mattydr67 thanks a lot for your fast answer. I have reading this thread since more than a year and last page that I remember I read was 180 or something like this (I think that was for VCDS up 10.63). During that time I read some solutions. I know that I need to start read again.
I think that my best option right now to avoid be without a tool will be to buy an new HQ one and also will be really useful to try to safe my old 11.11 as a backup. Then a pair of doubts:
1.- how do I recognize and where can I look for an HQ interface? do you know about some realible ones like Europa made and not crapy China interfaces?
2.- to safe the 11.11 one, can make it back to life like it was or do I need to modify it inside (remove/change ICs) like old 10.63 or 908 ones with RL?

I have old maybe 805 BL tool. It was dead at all, doesn't have eeprom for FTDI. I have soldered one. VID PID is correct after this. I had programmed Atmega with 11.11.0 dump, LED works and was blinking red. I have resoldered Atmega, now it works, LED is green. But after TEST in VCDS there is:

In this case you may have a surprise: a short circuit existing on +5V to GND, if programmer's (+5V) are not protected, you can damage the programmer. Is more expansive like a 7805.
I prefer power up the cable with +12V.

Of course you don't start programming if LED doesn't blink, it's first thing to check before any other actions. I never had any problems programming this way, however i had problems when i used 12V because 7805 can sometimes decrease voltage too much, anyway you can only supply - (minus) to atmega via USB port, +5 V is needed from other source, it doesn't necessarily has to be from programmer but it's more convenient for me than some other way.

If you have a tool with FTDi BL or BM you don't need to remove the GAL and don't need to reflash it
If you have a RL tool of course you need to remove it and the reflash it. You cannot flash it on PCB

I have problem with 11.11.3 chinese(ft232bm, atmega, gal). After plug in usb it shows in device manager and dissapear after about 10 seconds. next when i refresh the same situtation, one moment it is in device magaer without error, and after few seconds dissapear. usb cable checked, can be problem with ft232bm ? Friend this question could be really dumb but I had a lot of troubles trying to solder the pads of the Atmega162 to reprogram it. I don't have a loupe station to do the work correctly. Then friends for this interface where can I easily take MOSI, MISO, SCK & Reset pads. I just need to reflash the ATMega162 to save my VCDS11.11 interface.

Your car have CAN? The "test" message is "K1 OK, K2 OK, Can ready/not ready (ready if the car have can, not ready if the car haven't can or...can damaged (in car or in your cable)...

hi everyone.I have a clone Vag 12.12 cable an it uses a Nec D79F8513A chip.(it was sent by mistake to me) since i ordered a different one. anyways -is this chip possible to reprogram or do anything with ?? also are there any data schematics for this chip in english ?? The cable runs fine for any Vag programs that use the Version 192 but doesn't work on older Version 184 Vag programs-earlier than the 11.xx Is this common on the newer cables,not like my 812.4 one. It has a "hexa193-00c6............." serial number. PS I found that the serial # is in the banned list in Vag 12.12.2. Also,after unpacking Vag 12.12.2 you can see most serial # in plain text but alot are also encrypted in plain text ,so not seeing it doesn't mean its not on the banned list.

My 11.11.3 cable had problems on k-line (was working for couple of seconds and then threw "too many communication errors"), while CAN on another car was doing preety good (I know there were some errors in communication as it had occasionally shown N/A value while measuring blocks). So I started to play with the cable and that is how I ended up in the state in which it does not work at all...

Could anyone suggest a solution for such cable:

The same thing happened to me and the only solution is to reflash Atmega.
L.E. your FTDI is FT232BL(or BM) .

I was like that until it broke:

K1: OK
K2: OK
CAN: Not ready

But it was on a 03 car that has K-Line and some kind of early CAN. The comuunication was killed with "too many communication errors to continue", but on a car with CAN communication was ok with small glitches (it was like occasional frame drops in communication, but the communication was not dropped itself)

Now it is dead broken as I have been playing with it too much.

So you say that I only have to program the atmega chip. I will try to do it and post the results.


It's done, works great, no communication kills/drops.

Hello!

Fuse settings not depends from the Interface version. It depends only from the type of firmware. The old public firmware has 256 word bootloader size where BOOTSZ0 is programmed and BOOTSZ1 is unporgramed. The newer firmware for FTDI RQ has 512 word bootloader size where BOOTSZ0 is unprogrammed and BOOTSZ1 is programmed. Any other fuse bits are the same.

The screenshot about fuse settings posted by alexm1 is good for all public firmwares. All free/public firmwares (including the fw for 11.11.0 you posted in #4185) are old type firmware with 256word bootloader size.

Fuse settings not depends from the Interface version. It depends only from the type of firmware. To get normal comfortable temp I have to dial in something like 16.5 - 17 degrees C which feels like 21 or 22C in reality. The car is Audi A3 8PA 2006, there are no fault codes in the HVAC system.

configuration bytes are simple, you may use them from any existing format :) or use HEX file, or just simply tic needed :) there are some in this thread too :) for EDC17, yes it may show km :) and much more :) just need correct channels, and logins :) and YES EDC17 has logins too...

No, cannot , but you may check the DPF regeneration count and do yourself some math, you may find what you are looking for; DPF should not been deactivated and in good working condition, otherwise make no sense.

Hi!

You can not read the content of ATMEGA with AVR programmer becaue is read protected.
If you try to read it out than you will receiver dummy bytes instead of the real content.
Of course there is at least 3 secret methods to read/rebuild the eeprom of the ATMEGA (the application area is not important) without AVR programmer but is not public (and I hope never will be public).

FT232R must be rewrited with .ept file. The rest of FT232R memory is not easy accessible for users and is irrelevant for her..

For equivalent dump Atmega 162 wroted for NEC, no chance here. Try repair .ept file, I saw few cables with NEC working after repair .ept file (USB recognition)

i need full Ft232R dump, as there is some data that SW checks before working normaly. if that data is missing it will blacklist the license or erase FT again :) and all FT232 memory is easy accessable by users just get mprog 3.5 and press read it will read all memory content :) so if anyone just has working 12.10 NEC tool, or even simple 12.10 tool, please let me know :)

for EPT, it consists only from standart data, no UA memory area is put into EPT files so in most my cases if program uses any UA and FTID recognishion, the ept is worthless :)

If I connecting the cable to the car without CAN everything goes OK,but if I do connect to the car with CAN (example Touran 2004) program hangs on and after while I have a note: The cable not find... And the CAN can't be OK in this case.( In this case: K1 -OK, K2-OK, CAN -not ready) But if I will do connect to the car equipped with the CAN , another message appears: "the Ros s tech cable did not find...." It can't be old version,because failure occurs suddenly a few years ago then I did connect to some one Audi. I bought a newest version 12.10,but the old version is better sometimes. The new cable do not ecu and immo swapping in immo 3 system. So I dream fix the older cable.

Hi,

after a long time reverse engineering, I found a solution for change a unregistered serial to a whitelist serial (activated).
This Method works without a HW Programmer, wh opening the Interface, without any soldering.
Updates works too :-)
Maybe some Members suspect my Method...
One little hint for you, it works via BL...

I'm thinking on it to make it not open source. Reasons should be clearly...
Maybe I'll share with few users here, if the had other interesting information for VCDS and other tools. Who did what, please PM.

You have the schematic and on your photo have 7, 15 of OBD and "XXX".

Verify with an ohmmetter what pad is directly linked on that point, that pad must be pin 16 OBD.

Look on the schematic and maybe you'll see more.

VCDS cable CLONE work ONLY with the soft arrived with the cable. And the cable have inside the corresponding and necesary firmware.
Any another version of soft can destroy your cable.

IF your cable worked correctly with the soft arrived at the bought momment and now must update fw, you using a newer version (or by "curriosity" - "maybe work", or the pc has connected on internet at RT servers).

In both cases try to uninstall all versions of VCDS having and drivers for vcds cable, including from registry, restarting pc and reinstall. Must know what you do.

IF after that your cable work again, ok, if not, your cable must reprogramming.

That's all is correctly for clones...
For oem cable the update is free.

Usefull is if you tell us more details: version, few photos from inside...FW version, etc.
