I have read almost all 300 pages on this thread, very useful, thank you all for sharing info.
Almost a week ago I have bought a clone, seller delivered a CD with official 17.1.2, on description said that official software will work. At least that i could read on that CD, it was a bit damaged. After autoscan license gone, Unregistered appeared. No internet, no update, just software from CD. I have contacted seller, no answer until now.
Meanwhile, I have found some software, recovery.exe, and worked but when I am scanning I get some communication errors.
Can I make it to work as it should?

Why do you need it in hex? Avrdude can write raw .bin file without problems.

No reason for that at all, but I do attach dumps (hex for flash, eep for eeprom) and fuses screen shots for both 0x44 and 0x46 versions.

Actually fuses are a bit different for kolimers dumps.
avrdude.exe -p m162 -c usbasp -e -U lock:w:0x3f:m -U efuse:w:0xfb:m -U hfuse:w:0xdc:m -U lfuse:w:0xcd:m -U flash:w:Flash1.96_HW_0x44.bin:r -U eeprom:w:eepromavr.bin:r

It's always better to burn via this command line the raw bin file.

By a strange circumstance when connecting my vagcom to the car a short circuit occurred and the FTDI FT232RL chip died, now windows does not detect anything at all and the only thing I had left was to replace the chip. I have a board that I had at home ("USB to TTL converter with FT232RL") but what has been my surprise that when installing this chip to my vagcom, now I can not reprogram it and I do not know what to do. Windows yes, recognize it, but Mprog does not allows to write it.
What advice could you give me?

No way to get a better crack for this 17.1.3 VCDS cable I have? Or use an older vcds version? Communication and rod file errors .

anyone have problem with windows freeze when vcds are open for more than 3-4 minutes ? I open vcds 17.1.3 original software , options, test, all ok, leave it open for 3 or more minutes, come back to PC and when I click on vcds window, windows freeze and I must shutdown PC with power button, cannot open task manager to end process. I have this problem from version 16. 15.7 is latest that works OK

That is totally possible, but one thing is true. Cable works properly for a long time without any issue. I almost sure that problem is hardware, but which IC FTDI or eeprom??? I suspect that FTDI IC is gone. What do you think friends?

wow, it works now, thanks i used 12.12.3.
using it for a tiguan 5n 2010 to reset electronic parking brake after changing it.

VCDS find all sensors,I could reset all errors,
but after i've opened [53 - Parking Brake] > [Basic Settings - 04] and typed for the group "006/007 or 010" it failed the whole time "group... unavailable"

I dont know what to do, its a version probleme?

Hallo everybody! So early I flashed my VCDS with Ponyprog to Fantomel version. Work great. Yet I do not have this simply 4-wire Flasher and also do not have LPT port. For Atmega here I have only Xprog. So, for Xprog I must read present fuses, make screenshot and whrite the same fuses (after flashing with Kolimer`s dump)? I see that fuses is different for 44 and 46 HW. Or is better to find any Fuse Converter from AVR to XProg? Many thanks in advance!

EDIT: I forgot what Xprog also use string for fuses!. Button CFG. Ext, Hi, Low (same sequence as in AVR). Now everything is on it`s place!

Info for all "VCDS" newbies:
VCDS with FT BL or FT BM chips can work with original VCDS software (no moded) IF you have good dumps (for ATMEGA and FT).
VCDS with FT RL is chinese "low cost" versions and only can work with VCDS moded softwares (cracked or have "loader"), and
always some of VCDS functions no work good.
So, the difference is obvious between the two TYPE devices

FALSE) FTDI is only converter from USB to RS232 so HW with FTDI 232RL will work with good loader/crack and has no limitation compared to HW with BL/BM

If somebody need configuration file for Xprog, for flashing VCDS HW46. Byte is the same, only is mirorred in oposition to AVRdude.
One remark: My VCDS is HW46, 100% same element in foto from Info.pdf, Atmega - 2 track is not connected to GAL. But Kolimer soft for detect HW show me - HW44. Anyway I flashed with Xprog as HW46 and test tomorrow. On bench is ok, valid licence, firmware - 1.96.

Hmm, now I'm not sure. The only I'm sure that there are two versions of HW. See two schematics attached, but I'm not sure which one is HW44 and which one is HW46. I have no old car with no CAN and with K1&K2 lines to test it.

UP. FF is right locks fuses for FW1.96? I unterstand that locks fuses is only for posibility of read the fw, but I also know that incorrect locks fuses can confuse right execution of the firmware. Thanks in advance for response!

Your problem might be the FTDI -RQ on your PCB, as I read on earlyer pages, kolimer's dump are for FTDI RL type.

I want to publish new cracked VCDS version 17.1.3. Inside the archive there is HWType detect tool, ATMega dump (FW+BootLoader for HW type 0x44 & 0x46 + EEPROM), FTDI EPT and XML file, original installer and cracked exe. Cracked exe disables internet connection to ROSS, marriage with FTDI Chip ID and clears blacklisted serials.

Tested on my car and it is working.

Should work. It is not FT version dependent. If you use adapter with protection chip and vcds loader, you must first unlock the adapter by running the loader and then use HW detection tool.

Very good question. I also need in german this soft. For me is does not matter what kind of language is, but for others peoples... It is very hard word - make decompilation - compilation, but if you make a good offer to Kolimer in PM, who know...

7.Start the vcds 17.1.3_cracked. exe and let the program update your firmware
8.After that perform the tests and you may have e licensed working adapter

Point 1-3 is absolutely not necesary. Software 17.1.3 work great on computer with installed 11.11.5, 12.12, 15.7. No problem and no collision. Point 7 - soft do not update firmware. In point 5 you already made update of firmware by flashing Atmega. In rest is ok.

I did not know what could be done in that way. If you test VCDS on car and perform for example auto-scan and ALL is ok, then is very good idea to upgrade firmware without programmer. Please test on car and if all is ok, I`ll try with another adapter to make same manipulation, without programming Atmega.

Seems to be wrong fuses, or? I repeat: frimware from Kolimer work on car VERY-VERY GOOD, inclusive Auto-Scan on CAN-UDS blocks.Tested. And dont loose connection as 12.12, that I have before.
PS Verifica fuse, acolo poate fi problema.

Yes, a Prolific emulator. If install normaly, in Device manager will be recognized with a variable serial like RTABCDEF, ABCDEF different letters.
If will read with MProg, wil be found with RT000001 serial always.
So, is an emulator but not so OK.

Maybe crack for 64bit should be different, maybe people with 64bit system should install VCDS as 32bit. I have to try this. In loader for 11.11.0 was the same I thing that is works only with setting as 32bit

i get the same error.

it seems to me that the hacked dll is returning some sort of error code and then not launching the software, only giving me the option to exit, as the number next to the word interface changes depending on what setup I'm using eg.

if I try the software without a cable I get "usb interface0 not found".
if I try the software with a cable I get "usb interface3 not found". if its plugged into the car or not. if the ignition is on or not.
if I try the software with my 11.11 cable, as a last resort, I get "usb interface1 not found".

on a side note is there a way to update my 11.11 cable to firmware 1.96? as I could then try that.

I have a hw46 board as reported by the HW detection tool. From the pics below it seems it has programmable headers (please see pics).
I also bought a usbasp v2 interface, but have no idea on how to connect the pins to the programmable 6 pins. Since my soldering skills are very bad, I would like to use this instead of wires the atmega chip.

I'm just ding this myself. this is my boards pin out which has the same header as yours.

pin 1 of atmega = pin 1 of header (as I'm assuming pin 1 is the first pin nearest the usb connection cables on the PCB)
pin 2 " " = pin 2 " "
pin 3 " " = pin 3 " "
pin 4 " " = pin 4 " "
pin 5 = GND
pin 6 = VCC (+5V) the last pin of the header and nearest the Car connection.

I have found my usbasp GND seems to be the other end of the VCC on the ribbon connector. as when I used the pin next to vcc I couldn't get any coms.

i have finally flashed my device,
tested on golf 7


Now with some errors, maybe somebody can help here:

1. At Scan i get lots of "COMMUNICATION ERROR" popup, is this fixedable?, but the ECU are found
2. try to use KOMBI LongCoding, after change the value, press "DO IT!" nothing change, i get old value back
is there a fix for it?

open Mprog and load the EPT File from Kolimer Gift )
Then use scan and programm.
Use the Hardware detection tool from kolimer.
You need plugin the interface cabel and your usbasp programmer on your laptop to make it work for detection the Hardware.

Not all have this pinout for programing. Solder wires direct to Atmega or to MCP2515. It 10 min work. What are you waiting?

I do not know the reason why for someone it works well and why some has problems with "Communication error".
