ive worked on many boxes that have never been locked by a default password ,a box is only locked once the owner changes the default password .
How are you, Pio, good to see you on. Thought we had lost you to the "brain drain". Do you ever look thru SG-Sta*hub thread. You
would be a big addition to that thread (DM500 & DM800HD). There
are some very Hi-Tech members in that region & if you & them got
your heads together the outcome could be very interesting.
I suspect HowPeter is in SG-region. Traders over there often lock
boxes before selling them on. Punters then have to pay trader to
upgrade box when encryption type changes. If Peter flashed new
image using Dream-up That would remove menu-lock. As you say,
Pio, in Eire/UK he will need cable-server & would be better to return box & get DM500s box. No trouble finding Sat-servers.
In SG-region DM500c works fine as they still use Nagra1 type encryption.

hi eamo mate as you say peter could reflash the box and then the pin lock wouldnt be an issue ,but as you say he still would need access to a cable server . the satellite option using a dm500s (atleast for me ) is a better option as at worst you always have all the free to air channels .

yes you can flash it with dreamup just ensure you have the correct image for a dm600c ,dm500 images end with .img dm600 images end with .nfi .

            Hello guys,

my dreambox hangs after it has been flashed. On the OLED screen only dream multimedia shows up.

Using null cable and hyperterm here is what i observed

            (c) 2007,2008 Dream Multimedia GmbH. All rights reserved.
            Dreambox DM800
            FIRST STAGE 1.00 {BO23456}
            2ND STAGE OK, build #76 (20100419)
            0.000 - BCM board setup
            {00000126,00000126,00000125,00000124,00000123,

Have tried using DreamUP 1.3.3.4 to flash a new image.. the flashing was successful but rebooting the box i encounter the same issue.

Does anyone have any idea as to what may have gone wrong?

            thanks much.

are there any error messages like no ca found ? ,i can only think you used an image that has a different bootloader to your box as with will cause boot errors .here is a link that may help

if its got a green light on at the front there is a good chance the box is ok and just needing a reflash ,if its got no lights at all its not looking great .

heres a couple of options you can look at

Howto Flash via the root.cramfs method

It means that you use the network connection (or crossover cable) to FTP the image to your Dreambox and to flash it manually.

This way is only supported by the CDK boxes or what are also called Engima 1 boxes.

                      the DM500, the DM56xx and the DM7000

When you have an UTP (LAN) connection between your PC and Dreambox, do the following:

1.Rename the image into root.cramfs (in small letters)
2.Copy this root.cramfs with a FTP-software to your Dreambox in the subdirectory /var/tmp
3.Push on the Dream or Menu button on your remote control to get into the Enigma menu
4.Go to the System Settings menu and choose the Software update

Now choose Software update where you will see 2 possibilities:

                      1.Internet update
                      2.Manual update

Now you choose the last option (Manual Update).

I recently flashed my DM500C using this method.

First do a ftp of the image file, then use the telnet to flash.

You can follow the guide given. Its very fast.

Null Modem Cable (this is NOT the same as a serial or rs232 cable, although it looks the same)
Bit of help needed here, I've seen websites that sell dreamboxes selling RS232 cables. I'm confused now as to if I have the right cable?

I need the USB to Null Modem too yet.

                              Any help?

a null modem cable has a 9 pin connection at both ends and it connects direct to the box and also can connect direct to a computer that has the same 9 pin connection that is on the back of the box . a desktop computer will allmost always have the correct 9 pin connection but a laptop in most cases will not have the 9 pin connection ,hence you then require a usb to serial adaptor . you connect the serial end of the adaptor to the null modem cable ,you would then connect the null modem end to your box and the usb end to your computer .

a usb to serial adaptor requires a bit of software called a driver ,the easiest way to explain why the driver is needed is that the driver helps the computer see the adaptor if the computer cant see the adaptor the cable wont work . the usb to serial adaptor can come with a disk which contains the driver which you install on your computer or you may have to go online and download the driver .

the problem is that windows vista is incompatable with most if not all of the drivers available ,so you may find it impossible to flash your box that way . if all you have is a laptop that does not have the 9 pin conection (and runs on vista ) you may have serious problems flashing your box ,a desktop computer will work maybe your kids have an old desktop computer or you have a friend who has one that you can use for about 15 minutes . there are one or 2 other methods that can be used to flash your box that are a bit more technical.
i love it when a dreambox comes together.
