Download this and use dreambox control centre.

This never fails with me and is a lot more simple to use than any other FTP Program.

first of all , check the IP address of your router.

now go into advaced settings on your box and change the IP address to within 10 off you router.

      example

      router 192.168.100.1
      box 192.168.100.10, or 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 and so on.

      in flash fxp

      create a new connection.

server or URL = your box IP , in this case as above 192.168.100.10
      username = root
      password = dreambox.

if you dont have a router you can try a direct cable connection between your PC and box. This time your IP address will be differend, and change your box IP to 1 above that of your PC.

If that fails then try a different cable, you could have a faulty cable or not a crossover cable.

You could just use the TuxBox Commander, it's not the hardest thing in the world. I assume your trying to edit keys,

            TuxBox >> Vars >> Keys >> Keylist.txt

            Simple!

                Staggers,

I had this problem last night. Firstly, ensure your cable is infact a crossover patch cable (RJ45 to RJ45).

If you plug the cable in your DM500C and your computer, there is a light inside the box. Look through the grills and you should notice it. I don't know why they didn't think to put the LED on the case but thats clones for you.

Secondly, if you want to make sure you've got a connection between the workstation and your DM500C, you need to ping your box.

To do this, first obtain the IP on your box. I assume your in Windows XP or similar? Go to Start >> Run >> Type 'cmd'

DOS will load with command prompt.

Type this... 'ping 198.xxx.x.xx' replacing the x's with your boxes ip. Hit enter and hopefully you will get your 4 packets returned no problem.

Let me know how you get on. If the pings successful, I can help you with the rest....

                Booth.

Go to expert settings on your Dreambox and connection settings.

You need to change to the following settings:

                              IP: 10.0.0.2
                              DHCP: Tick
                              Netmask: 255.255.255.0
                              Type: LAN
                              Nameserver: 10.0.0.1
                              Gateway: 10.0.0.1

Save settings, re-start box to be sure.

On your puter, you need to go to Network Connections (Start >> Control Panel >> Network Connections)

You will see a LAN icon, right click on this an click properties.

Look at centre box “This connection uses the following items:”

You may have to scroll down but your looking for ‘Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)’

Highlight that, then click properties on the right hand side.

A new box will appear, click on ‘Use the following IP address:’ check box.

Now type 10.0.0.2 for the IP, 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask and 10.0.0.1 for the default gateway.
