You need to give more detail, What country you in, cable or mmds
signal area. Don't do any more with box until verify correct files

im using the DM 500C-II for a while until recently the "Please insert smartcard" window popup and I cant view most of the channels... any idea if im in the right place for help?

You're in the right place, but you may have wrong box. Sounds
like you will have to pay for new card or buy new box. Price
both options & decide Take a look here for prices

DM500c or DM800HD are best box for SG (no card required)
Ask local members is this supplier OK to deal with
Also look here Arraysys says they are good

Hey gus why so much interest in 500c .. only get fta and can view only some channels as virgin codes the rest of the freeview ?? am i missing a trick

SG region still use nagra 1 encryption so dreambox still works
over there. If you are willing to pay contribution dreambox works
also in UK. You need to keep your ear to the ground as people
involved do this as "community service" & don't really advertise
You could post on forum;

black box 500

hi i am new to the forum and also very new to finding out on how i can view sky channels on a blackbox 500 receiver. i have not purchased any receiver yet and can anyone advise me which receiver is a good one out there and where i can get one and also i do know you need a sky satellite dish and a cable modem to connect to view channels. all i want to know is that do i need to download any software from the net into the receiver to view the channels from the receiver or how does it really work as i am very new to this system, please can someone expert help me set this all up, and what type of equipment do i need. cheers

Windows 7 does not have telnet enable by default. To enable telnet, go to:

Start
Control Panel
Programs And Features
Turn Windows features on or off
Check Telnet Client
Hit OK

I am blur too.. They are talking abt a cable and rs232.. I understand what is rs232.. Is cable the ethernet cable?

Cable for this rs232 port is not ethernet cable.

It is a serial cable (9-pins) that look just a VGA cable (15-pins). This serial cable is also commonly called null-modem cable & can be found in SLT (Sim Lim Tower) easily.
