hi lads bit of a noob question does a dreambox 500c have to be connected to the internet constantly or is it just for the purpose of ftp ?

no mate it doesnt. only time it needs to be connected to the net constantly is for cardshare, but we cant talk about it here so google is your friend for that

Hi guys. new to the forum so i don't have access to the winrar file yet. Looking forward to seeing it though. Only just came upon this forum now but yest, got recoemmended to flash the box with the DK1.1 backup.img file and used telnet and all seemed to go ok. Was using evocamd2.12 b4hand and channels were up (shudda bloody left it) but was told hypercam was the way to go. Channels were up as i said but all the names of the channels wer egone (if u know what i mean) and some other channels had dropped over time.
Anyway, i flashed image and have ftp'd the 3 hypecam files into the bin\var folder and am only getting a couple of terrestrial channels. Based in Cork, Southern Ireland.
Is this familiar to anyone ? please say it is....

P.S: Will the winrar file be available to me soon ?

Welcome aboard, You picked the "easiest " box to start with, But you made
the right choice and seem to have read guides & know what your at.
Given the right advice you will have no problem, I found my first linux box
very hard to grasp. You have taken to it like a duck to water.
You should really have stated if you are CHORUS cable (CITY) or
CHORUS-T mmds (county). If you are back here throw that in.
I will assume you are CITY & you have DM 500-C box.
Before you go any further If you are Chorus -T you need DM500-T box.
If you have right box for your area FIX is the same.
You have; DK 1.1 image, you may change this to PLI-JADE 500 at a
later date if you wish. Easier to start Hyper cam on boot on PLI-JADE
Lets get box working first, make alterations some other day,If you wish
3 files are in var/bin, v good, not much left to do.
I presume PC is hooked up to box via crossover/ ethernet cable or
whatever method you feel relaxed with.
Scroll to Hypercam 1.06 line & R-click, hilite ATTRIBUTES, hit OK.
Change 644 in box to 755 & click SAVE, exit & hit OK to open box again.
Make sure 755 is saved in box. This is going too easy.
Final step ; To start up Hypercam.
Hit OK on Hypercam 1.06 line in var/bin 3 colour options appear
Don't use colour buttons, even on new remotes colour & no. keys tend
to double-click, & you won't even feel the double-click.
I had to do 5 dreams for a mate, he was using RED key to execute cam
& it was double-clicking, unknowns to him. all he saw was blue sky.
Green box is hilited, scroll left to hilite RED , hit OK, you see blue sky,
YOU also see details, one says starting Hypercam. EXIT twice .
3 colour boxes, scroll left, OK on RED, exit.
If you have picture YOUR on FTA chnl.,Scroll up to any encrypted chnl.
YOU'll have no picture ; Scroll up 1 & back down you will get sound &
then picture clears.
Once you have encrypted clear most of others will have cleared.
Scroll through chls., Any one thats not clear, You know the drill.
Scroll UP & DOWN to clear them. Martin,radio,guide, etc are not active
so won't clear.
After putting you thru all this I hope box is working.
If anyone gives you urban myth--GO TO S*Y SP 1, wait 5 mins to clear
Tell them to F**K OFF, the UTD. game is starting, we wan't to see it all

Yes, i'm in the city and have a DM-500c BOX.

Was msn'ing with a guy from cork today and he put me in touch with a working gemini image which i downloaded and sent across new keys and scce files.
i changed the name of the gemini image to backup.img like what was recommended to me and used telnet.
It appeared to flash the box and in doing so, changed the ip address and when it boots up now, it's just blank/black !!
Doh !
Next step was to use filezilla and put on the new files and then do a scan but can't as i can't communicate with the box.

On dreambox, using rem.control go to EXPERTSETUP,communication,
Your I.P. etc. should be all there. You may have to alter some of these.
I wrote a THESIS for you which should have worked. You have now re-
flashed with UNKNOWN image which has no BOOT-LOGO. Get back to
Cork contact as he knows the (ghost) image you now use.
If you can't hack it give details of "IMAGE" on here
OR
Humbly apologise to FORUM and re-flash D.K. image
Read "thesis" & this time follow instructions carefully.
"Thesis" is novice -friendly & uses D.K. 1.1 & DM500 menues.
Other images will work, but will use varied menues(can be confusing.
If you get stuck post here, you will get help.

I've been lurking for a couple of weeks now and having evaluated the options I have finally made the decision to purchase a dreambox. Looking forward to eventually gaining access to the tutorial.

Hi guys, been directed to this guide which is great but...
i'm a bit stuck as regards the ethernet > router route in order to flash my box.

Can anyone give me a detailed noob walkthrough as it doesnt really go indepth with that.

I'm using a LinksysWGT54G router via standard ethernet cable to connect up.

Hi I live in Barbados bought a Bajan Dreambox 500c.I have the programe to set it up,the only problem is when i PLUG IN THE dm BOX THE TV SCREEN IS ROLLING. Does haveing the American system and the box is PAL English system have anything to do with it.If it does what can be done to solve this problem

There is a setting in the image to change to NTSC. What image are you using?

hi lads listen i have a dreambox not mine belongs to a m8.. he used have it connected to a dish asked me to flash it so he could use it whit a dish i have flashed a few eurovoxs1000 and thanks to this site for the firmware for new eurovox1100 but when i tried to flash whit dreamup it says prepairing, now turn on dreambox so i do and nothing now not too pushed ;BUT; i bought a 500c for myself and its on route and im confused downloaded dreamup have nullmodem cable to usb witch i used for lots of eurovoxs no prob do i just connect dreambox run dreamup is the flash in the dreamup progrme is there a better programe than that any advice would b apprecated ps sorry 4 spelling
