What sort of modem? Are you talking about broadband modem, dial up mdoem and what are you trying to do with your modem. If you are not sure about what you are doing with your dreambox than read the stickies in the cable dreambox section.

Hi Thanks for the guide i managed to opne it now it was in a word 2007 format so i had to download a convertor.

However i do have some questions i have only done a 600pvr box before and reading the instructiosn they seem different, it does not tell you to go into downloads to install the CAM and activate, nor does it tell you where to put the cables.xml file.

Has the image already got this stuff inbuilt ?

Also i dont have a Null Modem i do mine through a router can i still upload the image this way.

          Open telnet
          Open 192.168.1.103

          Type in the following

          mount /boot -o remount,rw
          rm /boot/*
          reboot

          4. You should now get a message saying that the Dreambox is rebooting.

          5. Wait a few seconds and then run Explorer (Firefox or whatever) and enter the ip address of the Dreambox in the address bar.

          6. On the screen that appears, choose the 'Upgrade firmware' option, find the .nfi file and click the 'Flash' button.

          7. Once the progress bar reaches 100%, reboot the box

The instruction outlined in this thread by shady are for a dm500 if you try and do this on different box than you will brick the box. The instructions you have outlined in your post are for a dm600 and if you try and execute those on dm500 you will brick the box. The dk1.1 image is for a dm500 and has all the required files except for the keys. The cables.xml file goes in the var/etc folder.

I have just checked the file and it downloads and opens just fine.

it is a microsoft word 2007 document which will not open if you have an earlier version of word.

you can download a convertor from the microsoft website. details are here

unless we then get a load of complaints along the lines of
"i cant see vid. computer telling me i need eyes to watch it with"
"i cant watch tutorial. i have no pc"
