ok i have got IFA installed on my PC. I have connected using Ethernet cable (I do not have a NULL Modem Cable)
In the Browse window i have searched and entered the IMAGE. In the next window below (Please choose Network Card Dbox is connected to) I have selected the Ethernet Connection . I have selected No to Null cable Yes or no. When i click start the Window says "WAITING FOR DBOX START" I then put the DBOX on at the mains and nothing happens. Just says Waiting for Dbox start
The network adapter card is connected - so that is not the problem.
Any ideas where i am going wrong?... Or is the box fried?.

I assume its a cross over cable, if so then may be worth keep unplgging and plugging in dbox as they can sometimes be a pain to connect (they do seem to connect better with null modem cable though) also try pressing standby and up buttrons on dbox together and releasing this reboots box and can sometimes work, may have to do it a few time, have known ppl to do it like 50 times before it works .

Hi yes it is a cross over cable. It shows as connected to the Dbox ( LOCAL AREA NETWORK COnnected message in bottom right corner)so it has to be a cross over cable, Only yesterday i uploaded the new key fix with the same cable and all was well. Tried the Button trick. It really looks like the Box is for the bin. all because of a small power cut on a reflash.
When the box is turned on i get the digits on the display for a ferw seconds then all goes blank. Cannot do nawt with the remote.
this is painful

Its not sounding good m8, possibly a fault on the power suply in the box now, if so then afraid i cant help you any more, but am sure there are members on here with a lot more knowledge than me that may be able to help you.

Thanks for all your help so far Derek. But yes it does look like the box is fried. Shame it was working 100% yesterday. It all started when i disconnected the box to relocate in the room . Any ideas from others. Your would be much much appreciated before I chuck the box in the bin.. Where can i get another?
I've ordered a NULL CABLE and hoping that will make it work.

Don't give up hope just yet, flashing with IFA and without a null modem can be hit and miss, you may want to try a few different versions of IFA. Version 2.2 is pretty solid.
I have listed a guide to flashing using only a crossover cable and IFA.
This is not my work, it is from a member (Rodboy) on my friends list from another forum and it works more often that not, so you may want to give it a couple of tries.
Turn off windows firewall
Disable wireless network connection
Rename image file mtd3.img and store it in C:\
set Local Area Connection network IP to 192.168.0.201
( IFA automatically sets dbox IP to 192.168.0.202 )
configure Local Area Connection link speed / duplex mode to 10Mbps / halfduplex
open IFA
select image for flashing ( mtd3.img from C:\ )
select network device ( there should only be one available )
switch dbox on
press start
a dialogue box pops up
switch dbox off
click ok
switch box on
flashing should begin
progress is indicated on LCD ( IFA image on TV screen )
Fertig and smiley faces on LCD means success
disconnect network
off then on at the mains
This works using crossover cable only..........not always first time !!!
will it now work if i have followed all the instuctions from above? if not what else will i have to do. howlong does it take for the ifa take to put it on the dbox?

if you are using the ifa with a network lead (I USE A ROUTER) and a null modem then it should only take a couple of mins .
i had a box for 2 years under the stairs as it was dead (ME PLAYING WITH IT)
followed jaffas instructions from other posts and got it working in half hour . playing with the channels has cost me the best part of the day lmao .
use the image (FULL) from the chatterbox tool bar and flash that over , set location and off you go ,
i used the instructions from page 4 at the bottom, i had to use a crossover cable. it doesnt seem to have done anything for at least 15mins. whta ya rekon?
can anyone else give me any more info on how long it will take with a crossover cable. and what to do after it has eventually finished.
Thanks Jay
There should be wee smiley faces on the lcd and it should say Fertig. Usually takes around 5-10 minutes with IFA (thats a guess as I have a serious bout of forgetfulness).....what was it you wanted to know....
there are no smiley faces coming up onto the screen, just the three boxes that are the IFA saying "DBOX2 Flashingassistent is working on your box". but it has been like that for just about an hour. i just wanted to know what would i do if the IFA ever finishes, lmao. should i also put the arial into the back of the box or just restart it
