I have a box with a Western Digital HDD. After having many problems with failed recordings I tried the HDD in a caddy. Can't get the computer to connect and shows up a faulty device. WD sending a replacement. Will see what happens with it.
Did a factory reset, reuploaded firmware (without removing HD cos it won't budge) no change, still can't record. If someone has had success after removing the drive I'll try a bit harder to get it out otherwise it'll have to go back.
I have the same sort of problems which i personally think is a manufacturing bug, you turn the eurovox on and the HD spins up your channels are there and the tv listings apear. no probs
you can record or pause straight away no problems pretty much instantly , but when you stop recording you loose all TV listings and have to wait for it to update, this is problem 1
If you leave the eurovox for say an hour and then press record (please wait recording) is displayed for ages as if the hard drive is in hiberbation, but if you had just been recording something and stopped it , then went to record again it records instantly.
sometimes as the other people have said you go to PVR and your program is not there or will not play, shut the box off and on again and there it is, i wonder if the 5100 has any of these problems
possibly the hard drives were suposed to be formatted in FAT or NTFS or even have some sort of software on them as there is a problem between the hard drive and the box.
I have two of these boxes when they first came out and both do the same thing. maybe that could be the real reason the 5100 has come out to solve thes problems.
i have never had the problem with hard drive but niece has
i think it must have something to do with i never turn my box off but she does, have told her last week to leave it on and see what happens, no problems so far
I have exactly the same problem as fatthin, exactly the same. i have tried all the different things people have said and exactly the same thing happens.
I have two of these boxes bought from different suppliers and it has exactly the same problems.

if you have not fitted the stickey label onto hd before installing then you need to pull will pliers ,the box comes with a sticky label to ease extraction
regarding recording problems ive seen this loads of times ,tried changeing hardrives but still the same ,makers say it should be a seagate and not wd but seagate are hard to find and wd work fine most of the time ,and i have also had same problem with seagate problem normally solved by swapping boxes with someone not interested in recording, one of my customers had this same problem last week and tried a hitachie 60gb and the box worked fine, no reports of this problem with the 5100 ,it is a pain but hard to say if its firmware or hardware def not faulty hardrives

You need to do as Satsmo said and flash with the HDD out, Before taking it out do a factory default and it will give you a option to Erase all recordings, do that then factory default then take it out and re-flash.

tried this last night set the box up again pressed the record button and it recorded instantly went to play it back and finally success so i thought. timed a recording in through the night got up this morning and there it was on the pvr menu tried to play it no luck switched box off then on again went to menu and once again the recording had disappeared, i don't think these boxes will ever record properly think i will get the ex7000 knowing my luck that box will be the same.
on my ex5100 i was getting a delay when recording it would take about 30 seconds to start recording, and also losing recordings after box had been on standby, just tried the advise given by u5ername about putting the hd in and out several times, and now it is recording within a couple of seconds, just found the sticky piece of plastic in the box which you put on the top of the hd which makes it a lot easier to get the hd out, cheers
I have a similar problem when I record. After I start to record a program, about 20 mins of rec I lose picture signal. Why is this happening.

If you have tried everything mentioned in this thread mate then I would advise you and anyone else to send it back for a replacement as it should still be under warranty.
Think I have it sorted peeps. What I did was go into tv settings on the box and turn off signal booster.I then recorded a channel for 4 hours to test if it had worked and it worked.Only got to try a timer recording overnight to see if this works.Fingers crossed.
I'm afraid the software is crap, complete crap! I swapped my drive for an old 20gb WD I had lying around and my problems were solved. It's still crap and takes a while to record but recordings are still there later and do not dissapear or end up in a list of gobledegook. When I record something on some channels, the picture sort of stretches from top to bottom so everybody has a long head. As you end the recording the picture goes back to normal. (yes, I have tried all the different settings in the menu.) The earlier version of Eurovox I have (I've had two of these) without the HDD is ok, except the speech starts to distort and sounds like everybody is talking under water now and again. If I go up and then down a channel it sorts itself out. I have had problems with the lip sync drifting and again a quick up/down of the channels sorts it.
At the end of the day, it's Chinese rubbish, they all are. I think I would rather go back to a second hand Dbox2 (full of dust and crap) at least they seem to be made to some sort or standard.
I like the box for straight forward programming and set up but it has huge software issues.
