I forgot to add.... The 120 gb hdd I removed from the Eurovox, I installed into a case and use it daily as an external HDD for files. I also have run numerous WD tests to prove the drive is fine. The Eurovox is a "Me-love-you-long-time-ten-dollar" piece of crap.

I’ve got the similar issue on my 5100 ….
For the last two days it’s been fine.
What I did was set my recordings manually. Then before I go to sleep I change the channel view from favourite view to normal i.e. showing all channels from 1 to 2xx., and leave the box like that.
Woke up this morning to find that my recorded program had worked and the box didn’t go into standby…
Worth a try, probably need a bit more experimenting, but we’ll see how long it continues to work for

Got to agree about the Ex5000 being a piece of crap.
Can you do us a favour mate and PM me with the make and supplier of the External Case you use. I have tried a couple and cannot get them to recognise in "My Computer". Showing in the Device Manager.Comment

Hi folks
Has anybody found a way to solve this? Is there likely to be a firmware upgrade to sort it out?
I am well peed off that I have brought a 5000 that wants to be hit and miss with the record feature. At the moment it seems to be running ok but I know its only a matter of time before my recordings go awol.
Has anybody had the same experience with the 5100? I am considering ditching the 5000 if th 5100 seems to have over come this.
I have also read about the 5000 clones - how can you tell and is this likely to be something to do with it?
Thanks

The hard drive case I use is just a Fleabay special. It was only cheap. There are loads on there. The one I have says IBM on it, I don't suppose for a miniute it really is though. It works ok.Comment

Eurovox EX5000 PVR
Ok then, add me to this list...
To record properly i have to switch off/on at the back, wait about 30 secs and then record without problems. If not it either freezes at 'waiting to record' or worse still all the programs you recorded previously are showing blank with the red locked symbol.
Someone mentioned earlier the drive going into standby? So if not used in a while or if the box is put on Standby mode the HDD goes to sleep and cannot be reactivated fully or accessed quickly? So does the drive have to be spinning already when you press record for it to work properly..
If so then what if we pressed PVR button and PLAY to start up the HDD drive, then stop and press record?
I'm using the WD HDD 120gb included with the Eurovox in my laptop with no problems so don't think its that.
Are these WD HDD's designed to go to sleep if not accessed in a while? Could someone re-program the box to boot up the HDD before it tries to start recording rather than trying to record directly onto it whilst its not spining?
Don't fancy the drive spinning constantly waiting for a recording to start so looks like a new Firmware needs writing..Comment

I have just had to jtag my clone ex5000 to bring it back from the dead (see post: eurovox ex5000pvr dead ????? )
Before I did this I had all the issues with the PVR: recordings deleting themselves, PVR locking up, having to reset all the time to use PVR etc etc.
Now the PVR works spot on! No PVR problems at all.
So I would say the fix is to jtag, IF ITS A CLONE, I would suggest if you where going to try it read off your existing TSOP and save it as a backup.
Even then you still might end up with a brick so be careful.
I had a dead box anyway so had nothing to lose.
