Will my new box soon be obsolete?

I seen all your other posts Harry in relation to what type of box to get. To be honest the best box to get is the one your are comfortable with maintaining and obviously cost is also a perspective to look at.

I use both open and closed sourced boxes so I sit on the fence in regards to the usual linux V closed source boxes, the usual response is however valid. Opensource is community supported closed source is supported by manufacturers, importers etc, so for more support linux is the way to go.

Regards buying a HD cable box, I wouldnt go down that line until more HD channels are introduced the cost is too high for one HD channel.

Why not get a Eurovox 1000SL, which is a budget box but is just as good without the one HD channel.

I thought you had a 500C, why not stick with that?

yes i have the 500c but i have a hd tv and the picture aint upscalling to hd so thats why i wanted the eurovox hd but im going to look aorund first thanks mate

I still dont know where nag 3 is coming into this as currently n1,n2 and n3 are being streamed in Irl but only n1 & n2 are being used, for example ch0rus mmds is n1 and cable is n1 & n2 the new WHITE colour cards are n2....so if ur in a cable area where all subscribers have their n2 card they will slowly drop the n1 chanells and in a few weeks/months in these areas your boxes will not work until a n2 fix is made public, its over a year since they started posting out the upc n2 cards to cable and they are def hacked so its just sit and wait for everyone on cable im afraid.

Harry as said it is only in Ireland so dont worry.

What red devil has said is true to a point, but is what was happening a few months ago. Yes the three CAIDs are present but N2 is only a stop gap for the later DVRs.

Since then the N2 ROM 110 A07 cards have been updated to ROM 142 G07, (can been seen as N3 or N2b), and that is why the N3 stream is present. Regards their migration of top end subs they have gone to N3.

@satsmo still cant get a definate answer on this, ok so the cable will be gone and they havent started switching mmds customers cards yet and all mmds customers are using the sagem itd66 or in some cases an older model will they work on n3, if not its a hell of a lot of boxes to swap out as well, also they are still installing them on mmds, still a lot of conflicting storys on this, what do u think

As I have continued to say on the Satellite section now is not the time to buy anything relating to this hobby, sellers know whats going on and are starting to push stock that will be useless and unsellable in a few months Receivers, cards Cams stay well away, keep you money in your pocket untill later in the year.

I have only just bought a eurovox 5100 im in the uk hope i havent wasted my money

It will depend on what service you are picking up , For Republic of Ireland UPC Chorus & ntl are expected to change (that will go for NTL in the UK as well) Virmin in UK are set to use Nagra3 soon and if Sky Digital is to become a player in the cable market there will be the introduction of NDS.

With Cable there are always ways of getting around the encryption because its on a closed network unlike Satellite but you are always better to pay for at least the basic subscription for any hardware bypass of the encryption that might be possable in the future to open all channels even though your only paying a basic sub the receiver will get all the codes sent to it every few days.
