Manchester Area 1000sl lost all channels

Hi guys, I was just watching tv tonight and the box froze ever channel says no or bad signal, not a problem I thought so rescanned and found them again but all say no or bad signal.

I've reflashed to the latest firmware but no joy, I didnt try the ireland firmware but perhaps this is something thats needed?

I plugged in my standard virgin box and thats working fine.

Get back to Smoggy with details from SYST. INFO in menu
He'll decide if you have latest fix for your AREA
Best fix for M'chstr is 1/12/08, July 2009 is EIRE n2 fix only
The Feb 2009 fixes fu**ed a lot of boxes esp. clones
If you have right fix on , Try POWER-SCAN 100 to 800 MHz

Hi thanks for replying, cant even get the free to air channels currently the box wont actually work with a single channel in spite of reflashing and power scanning several times.

Signal strength on all my channels seams to hover around 80-80%, its hard getting the info as when I get the info box up it vanish's again saying no or bad signal.

Its odd its work perfect for about 6 months (sure some channels get lost but a rescan gets them back), I've been using the UFL_EX1000SL_24-02-09_DarX firmware.

Should I grab UFL_EX1000SL_DarX_01-12-08 and try that?

I had the same issues mate (based in ex C&W Ilford). Tried a booster, failed, tried a attenuator but that only sorted out channels up to the 500Mhz frequency. Weird thing is that the box works fine at my mates house at other areas about a mile from where I live.

I tried a Dbox and also a Pace 1000 and they both work fine at my house. I tried the 01-12-08 firmware but did not improve the situation much, it got comedy central working but that was it. You should try it and see if you have any luck.

I take it you have cable in rf in socket
did you scan on the correct symbolrate for your area
scan directly off the cable feed ie no splitters etc.
you could go back to earlier firmware (note comments from EAMO 2)
you could also try a cdf file for your area

I would, yes, but before you do anything make sure emulator is enabled.
              MENU--OK --1968---enable emulator----Hit red to save.
Next step is to check all cables, splitters, & scart leads. Any that look
dodgy, replace them. Now check every cable is in correct position.
Final step; MENU--OK--1968--1968----Hit (blue) DEFAULT KEY.
Exit back to screen & wait for codes to update. If still not happy do a
              POWER-SCAN.
I told you to check all cables because you should always have free to
              air channels showing.
To check your signal levels in menu; go to USER INSTALLATION.
Scroll down thru list of frequencies & check signal level at bottom of
              screen.

Thanks for the replies, I tried what you mentioned emulator is enabled so no joy there.

I then hooked the box direct into the wire coming through the wall (before my splitters) with everything else out of the loop. All was good there. So I did MENU--OK--1968--1968----Hit (blue) DEFAULT KEY. Exit back to screen & wait for codes to update. Sadly no joy there.

So then I did a Deep-Scan (what I've always read to be power scan even though its not the same wording). I selected 6952 (the default and the one I've always used in the past). This took some time found channels like normal but still no joy. Incidentally when its finding channels they are almost all labelled like TVCh1 where it used to have their channel names before.

I then checked the user installation like you mentioned, there it seams the signal strength is around the 80-85% levels but then dips to red at 5-20% levels. Which is odd as im sure its never done that before.

So I flashed to the UFL_EX1000SL_DarX_01-12-08 firmware and tried again with no joy, except that only found 50 channels in total and none of them had names on the scan.

Plugging my legit virgin box and broadband in and all those are working spot on.

When scan shows TVch 1 etc. means weak signal. Some Prov. outlets
have 2 connections; marked TV & FM. Make sure your cable is connected
to connection marked TV & make sure all cables are good. The VM box
working means you have live cable feed. EUROVOX are very signal
sensitive. Try POWER SCAN using SYM 6952 & then SYM 6887
                  2 things I would do;
                  Scan box at friend's house
Report jumping picture (only occurs after 7pm). Engineer will only call
9-5,won't see any problem, but insist he sorts out "errattic signal"problem
as it "probably only occurs when too many TV's in area are turned on.

                  Power-Scan---200 to 800MHz STEP 8 Try 6952 & then 6887
Power-scan is in user installation in menu

I tried all of the above mentioned however no joy, so I borrowed someone elses box theirs doesnt work at mine and mine works there so I guess my next step is to call virgin.

Well I had the virgin engineer around but no joy, he didnt really see an issue but I insisted there was one so he boosted the signal by 8db, after he left I tried both eurovox's that have worked previously on this same line and no joy.

Scans still find channels but they all have no name TVCh1 TVCh2 etc, does anyone else have any other idea's or should I just look to give it up as a bad job and sell both eurovox's (or maybe find another box that will work perhaps?)

I'm in the manchester area and have had nothing but problems since I bought it last week. Have bought a signal booster... didnt work... a variable attenuator... no joy.

I get the same symptoms as you... Basically a solid signal for a short time then a drop to low levels and back up to good. this sporadic signal fluctuation means the picture is constantly on and off.

im using the eurovox 1000sl also.

This basically happens only during the day. at night everything is fine. This leads me to believe that either vm are doing work on the lines during the day or the fact that lots of people are using their tv's at the same time, that this is causing the problem.

vm stb is fine. i rang vm today and explained the problem (not eurovox obviously) and they said they are going to try to fix it from their end within 24h. dont know how they can do this though. if its no better im to ring back and they'll send an engineer round.

Im in the Manchester area as well (but I have a Eurovox 5100 PVR) and I am having all the same problems as you.

I called VM and they could not see any fault and there was no work going on in my area, but its still going on. I plugged in my VM box and it all works okay.

So could it be that they have changed something in our area to stop us using our Eurovox boxes?

I doubt thats the case. Like I say, mine works fine later at night. How is yours working at night? Its either to do with the load during the day, or work that their doing on the lines. Another forum member told me that VM were doing upgrades around the manchester area until the 1st September.

I'm hoping that this is the case!

When eurovox finds TVch1 etc. you have weak signal. Make sure you areusing correct Sym. rate for your area (6952) . Then try scan using 6887.
Try scan at midnight or 6 a.m. when usage is low in your area. Best bet isvariable attenuator to fix signal issue. Borrow a different box from friend to try (stavu or other) at your house
