I have a question on this note, can't you reset the box to default factory settings and return it back to the seller?
Does it uninstall whatever firmware installed?

Hi all, the company should have received the letter I sent them that Trading Standards advised me to send. So we'll see if they respond, they have about 10 days left anyway.

Ask for your money back by law you are entitled to. If she does not give you the money back. Ask her to call the police. Yes thats right ask her to call the police. If she says why say because I am gonna take my money back or I take another Eurovox. And I am not leaving until I have 1 or the other. If she does not call the police Then kick her stand over take the ?170 out of her till. At the end of the day its your money not hers. A she has stolen from you. Or take a brand new eurovox from her stock..... This is absolutely crazy...

If you cant manage to get any cash or a replacement call the police in front of her (the local police number not 999).. and say that the a trader is becoming violent and threating and you believe your life is in danger... Give the address and your name and just as put you the phone down... shout put that knife away and slam the phone down...

The police will arrive within a couple of minutes and by law you will get a refund... If it goes that far

Unfortunately, some of the replies you've received Dannyboy, are less than helpful. There really is little point trying to involve the police, nor will it help by becoming aggressive or by simply taking another box off the stand. The other problem you have is that because you bought the box through what is referred to as a 'Market Overt', the sale of goods act doesn't apply, so any reference of it not being fit for purpose, won't really help either.

The difficulty you have is in the nature of the goods you have bought, we all know we can buy a FTA receiver for ?20 in most supermarkets, so we buy these things for a specific purpose and we all know what that is. The courts etc won't offer any help, again because of what you have bought, there is a saying that 'he who comes to the equity courts, must come with clean hands'. Those rip-off merchants who screwed you are therefore protected by the law - ironic or what?

I too have just returned a Eurovox EX7000, supposed to be new, but was clearly well used. I didn't connect it up but returned it immediately, and I'm having a devil of a job trying to get my money back, so I know the frustration you have experienced. I hope you get it sorted mate, but you have a job on sure enough, and I know it doesn't help you, but if nothing else, you've given them a lot of bad press and hopefully their sales will be affected, good luck.

A point worth remembering when buying a box..

                        Read the small print first.
Funny you mention this I bought 2 Eurovox 1100 from a seller over the internet and due to the purple light issue and then the epg issue, I decided to return them. I had only opened one box and flashed the firmware. I e-mailed the supplier who wrote back that once the firmware has been changed, the warranty becomes void and asked me to go ahead with updating the other box as well. I waited until I was satisfied with my own experiments with one box. But it did bother me that how can we trust the suppliers without testing the equipment when we have to upgrade the firmware anyway to use it.

One lesson that should be learnt in all this,

you never get something for nothing, I doubt you will ever get your money back, as an ex marketer for 25 years i have herd all-sorts but markets and fairs have different laws under sales of goods, it has to be buyer beware with them, they might be cheap but you take the risk, they will always use "well that's not the one you brought from here" and tie it up forever/ management are after the money and if they are good payers with a big stall they wont kick them off.

advice: only one bit, buy from a good retailer pay a couple of quid more for the protection it gives and to be honest i find ebay cheaper than most fairs, with all the protection that gives. I found mine on Amazon cheaper than anywhere, only buy from them if you are desperate

i am sorry you had this experience and do hope you get it resolved, it was traders like this that have killed the market trade, i had great relations with my punters but it was the few that made it sleazy for the majority, that made me quit

be warm in your shed and at peace with your god

If he is there every week its likely he has a round thet he does at different fairs . Get a few friends or family to admire his EXPENSVE items and say they havent got the cash today, But I will later in the week.. Starting a new job so have to buy this week. Where will he be trading later that week? When you have an answer if possible attend the show cause a stink via the organisers. Let him see you at the show, Let him know you wont let it drop. Have done the same to a dealer. Took him to court Won (he never showed on the day) Sent in the bailiffs. They visited his home. Stripped his house and sold him out of buisness at the bailiffs Auction. I got my money His stock of ham radio gear. ( my hobby) Re-equiped my shack Sold the rest on Ebay Made nealy 10 times my original purchase price. Yaesu stopped supplying him with stock He lost his shop as well. He used to organise one of the big amatuer radio rallys he lost that
My heart bleeds for him as I fall about laughing even now 20 years later

Just a quick update on this.

It's been 4 or 5 weeks since I sent a letter to the companys trading address as advised by Trading Standards. I gave them 14 days to respond and had no reply. After tracking the letter it turns out the address they gave me was the wrong one! (different number, but right street).

So I contacted the manager of the computer market and he gave me the correct address. Its been almost 2 weeks now and I still have yet to receive a reply. I checked this morning to see if the letter had been received and it says no one was in, and a note had been left!

So far I have been without the faulty box for over 2 months and also ?170 down!

On a side note, the computer market got raided last week. I know this company got done for selling DS chips and god knows what else.
