That the USB adaptor and If you have a PC/Laptop that doesn't have the 9 pin serial socket you will need a Null Modem Cable and a USB adapter.

          Thanks for the info.

I used to have a null modem cable back when I used to play network Doom back in the day. But lost it.

          Grrr.

I have a blue Maplin serial converter (Digital Kaos - Downloads - Maplin serial converter) and it seems to do the job...

Are you using a null modem cable only or with a USB connector?
If using USB adaptor check that the drivers are installed and updated.

                          Maplin Order Codes?

I have already got the EX5100, but did not know my computer never had the 9 pin adaptor at the back, so i am looking for a usb conector. A Maplin is at the end of my street and i would rather spend the big bucks, than wait from one through the internet so i can get it up and running for the weekend.

When i type in the code L71BT a female to female lead shows up. i thought it was a USB adaptor i need?

Would order code ZP43W work OK?

I too am having problems getting a response from my receiver. I have a Eurovox EX5100PVR brand new. I plugged it in and scanned channels, all free to air were ok. I tried to flash the box with the UFL_EX5100PVR_DarX_16-01-09.exe. When I click download the display switches between COM2 and COM3 and says the receiver was not detected. I then try from boot mode and the program states waiting for response from receiver but nothing happens.

I have a laptop with a usb to RS 232 with drivers installed (COM port 2 selected), connected to the null modem cable, connected to the box. I have reset the factory settings on the box. I have tried the flashing process in standby mode, in power on mode, with and without the rf cable connected and get the same reply.

Is there anything I can do to get this sorted? Is there any way of checking my COM port/eurovoxconnection?

                            Any help is appreciated.

These are the cables you will need to flash your box with the latest Firmware.

If you have a PC/Laptop with a 9 pin serial socket then all you need is a Null Modem Cable, see pic below:

If you have a PC/Laptop that doesn't have the 9 pin serial socket you will need a Null Modem Cable and a USB adapter, See pic below:

Make sure you do not buy just a straight through Serial RS232 9-Pin Female to Female cable, they seems to be quite a few people buying these from maplins, and they look exactly the same. However a Null Modem Cable is a cross over serial cable.

                              Maplins order numbers are,

                              L71BT Correct order code,
L68BT <-- This cable will not work!

Of course these cables can be bought much cheaper from fleabay, these are just for reference.

You will need to install the Driver that came along with the USB adaptor above, If you dont have the Driver you can download it HERE

                              Note:

Some people experience difficulties with the USB adapter, most of the time it is purely a port assignment problem. To rectify this make sure you have downloaded your driver and follow below to assign a port:

To see which port your USB adapter is connected to, connect your USB adapter and follow the following instructions:

                              1. Go to the Start Menu
                              2. Right click on "My Computer"
                              3. Select "Properties"
                              4. Click on the "Hardware" tab
                              5. Click on "Device Manager"
                              6. Click the + sign next to "Ports (COM & LPT)"
                              7. One of the listed ports should indicate which port your USB adapter is connected to (e.g. COM1, COM2, COM3, etc.)
                              8. Go back to loader, (UFL, dnupman, voxer) and make sure it is looking at the correct port.
                              9. You should be able to transfer data once the correct port is selected

Follow my advice to step 7. Locate your USB Adapter (port *)

Right click on that port and select properties. Then select port settings, then select advanced. At the bottom of that tab will be a drop down box with the port selected (port * in your case). Use the drop down to select another port (eg 1, 2 or 3). If the port you want to use is already allocated to something else, you can use the same procedure to reassign that port after you have finished.

Save the selections in the usual way. The USB converter will be permanently assigned to the port you selected.

This is based on Windows XP. Vista differs slightly in regards to device manager but the principle remains the same once you have a compatible device driver.

And if you are still having problems with the USB adapter then its time to get a serial PCI card.

Or a PCMCIA to RS232 serial I/O Card

                              thank you for info.
