c/s isnt really a great alternative, i see lots of people who are used to inputting keys into a starview saying, oh when N3 comes out ill just C/s sky or Virgin.

they will be in for a rude awakenin, with the much harder configuration and oversubscribed c/s servers and the need for your network to be running 24/7.

A small group of mates setting up a private c/s network could work well but is still quite hard to implement.

Spot on. A lot of the people saying this can hardly turn a computer on, never mind set up cs.

I know c/s is going to be harder than normally just using files, but thats why I plan to c/s Art first, then move on to other subscriptions. Also, there has been a new receiver released recently called the predator 8700 which works by sat sharing. Dont know exactly how it works, but I think it has some kind of "server" on a sat and you download firmware on it-no need for net connection
Lose your memory sticks? Forget to backup? Why not get 2GB of free space online, and I get 250MB too

I know you cant discuss it here so I will avoid the actuals,,,, but its dead easy. Its so easy you would not believe. It is the same principle, you give access and you receive access.

It took me about a few hours to get my head around it.

Anyways back on track with the thread, as one poster said earlier, as soon as N3 is cracked, it will on every forum around, and still no confirmed reports by the general public, so I will go for not this side of xmas (2010).

In case anyone is going down the mmds road in Ireland
Here is a link that seems like good value imo.

The Box-T starter kit - Bubble Supplies LTD

Just remember mmds could go belly up in 6 months time!!
But even at that you'd still have easily got your moneys worth.

Yes but the item will be worthless if n3 hits
My advice is to stand by your beds .
Run wot you got till it goes blank
Then stick it in the loft
get it back out (hopefully) in the spring
                    Its just like planting flowers
I think VM will be shooting themselves in the foot with this move
But i think abig storm is inement .............Paul

Not sure c / s will be the way forward, you need to be pretty competent on a computer to set it up, and it can also be pretty tedious and problematic and usually beyond your direct control when something goes wrong.

                        Time to bite the bullet.

I am only speculating here, but I have it on good authority that when Nag3 is finally turned on, the channels directly affected will be the obvious ones which are the Premium ones which are Sports & Movies, the rest of the stuff will be phased out over a longer period off time.

So really your box won?t be totally useless.

My advice especially to those in Yorks would be to now sign up to a very basic Virgin TV package, and then simply upgrade your viewing card over the phone when you lose your sports or if you?re in to Movies upgrade the movies.

That?s all you can do, then just run your other box along side it, it will still be useful for a while for some stuff.

How much bandwidth if it's set up correctly would it eat up roughly?

@ Dogsdinner, almost all channels have gone to N3 in Ireland, more dropped this morning and we'll be left with rte1 buy monday. It done now and wont be phased out over time.....it all over.Upc are laughing all the way to the bank with costumers crawling back to them not to mention to little guy in you local supermarket by his Sky stall fiddling with a biro...he's tearing his hair out now because he's so busy.Sky installers are around like monkeys swinging from trees and to be honest it makes me sick for us be forced to lye down and throw out all the gear we bought and have empty forums and threads.Thats just my thoughts this friday afternoon.
